Ok, I've seen it in live-action Japanese films, and tons of anime. That seed thing, shaped like half a yin-yang symbol. I've seen it in characters' jewelry, implanted into characters, and forming the cyst/ovum of giant tentacled cross-dimensional monsters. It glows at important moments, it purifies, it contaminates, it metamorphisizes.
It seems to have some connection that predates Buddhism - something with Shinto? Or the old Japanese nature gods and goddesses?
Searches haven't turned up much. Anyone here have any details to share?
What's with the SEED?

As it happens, my husband and I were pondering this same question last year when a new establishment came to our town.
We decided that the "seed" must in some way be related to the mythology of food.

(Blue Seed Hamburgers, anyone?)
(sorry, but I have been SO waiting for a chance to use this someday!!!

Well, Wikipedia was quite an interesting trip! Is it still all "unvetted" information, though? (Took a trip through the old kami of Japan. Interesting entries that *sound* learn-ed.
Lol on the Hamburger sign! Be sure to check your torso after eating there, in case you've been taken over! (Because as we all know, in the Japanese emotional universe, even the purest of heart can be subverted against their wills.)

But we seriously both looked at that at the same time and said exactly the same thing. This just proves that sick minds do, in fact, flock together. Or something like that.
In fact, I *have* actually always wondered what these represented, so having this come up was really helpful! I want that one in the picture...

Missed this in my state of advanced hilarity last night. To the best of my knowledge it is still unvetted ---hobbywhelmed wrote:Well, Wikipedia was quite an interesting trip! Is it still all "unvetted" information, though?
-- except in the sense that there are thousands of wonderfully geeky experts out there just itching for the chance to pounce upon anyone else's "error".
