IMPORTANT, READ!! EBAY PASSWORD HACKERSSS!!!

Post by hyelakingsfan »

Lately ive been received emails from "supposedly" Ebay of users asking questions. The thing is that they are NOT by ebay, they are hackers which are trying to get your password. How? i dunno, but they did get my password and change it!!! however, right when i saw what happened, i went to forgot password and filled in couple of questions and changed the password to a new one. Usually those emails go in the junk mail portion of your email so watch out for it.....Another BIG thing i noticed was that whenever you get an email from ebay they ALWAYSSS have the colon after the Ebay Member, so basically this is how they send emails... "eBay Member: crazyla_kingsfan" thats what i noticed thus far. So whenever u receive an email in the junk folder without the colon. "eBay Member crazyla_kingsfan" remember never to click it or chances are they may get your password. Just wanted to let everyone know so it wouldnt happen to you guys.

Than youfor head up :)

Yeah I keep getting these emails and usually I delete it before reading them :) But I think one way to get you is:

They said login in to your account vi their provided site which is a fake site but it looks like ebay one.
If you login using their provided site then it gives them your user name and password.

This is one way to do it. So if I have some free time go to their "true" site and keep in track the url address (and try to get the owner of the site).

Anyway this is so oweful.... :(

Thanks for the heads up! :) I keep getting emails saying a new account has been added to my PayPal account. I delete those and then go directly to PayPal using my personal bookmark instead of any links. I just verify there aren't any extra members and move along.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess this is their new "phishing" strategy. I bookmarked ebay so I never use my email to log in directly to paypal/ebay. If I'm not on my PC I usually make a search for a random item to confirm if the sites legit(you never know). I always wondered how they got my(or anyones) email address.

You should forward those messages to spoof@ebay.com, it helps them figure out what new stuff the phishers are using. Don't EVER click on a link in one of those e-mails and then log into e-bay (you are SoOOO lucky you managed to change your password in time).

Another tip, e-bay and paypal will ALWAYS have your real name in their e-mails. Paypal says, "Dear John Smith" and e-bay says "This message was sent to John Smith" in small lettering at the top.

Yes as a safety precaution never click on links in e-mails. A lot of times people fall for it because they think it's a legit e-mail, and as soon as they click on the link they are brought to a website that looks just like the actual one. If you notice in the e-mails (like if you use Outlook Express), if you hover over the links it usually gives you the full address of the site (ex. http*://tryingtostealyourpassword.cc.ebay.com - not a real link just an example), which obviously the embedded link is not leading to the actual Ebay site. I get these e-mails all the time, and Lynxa is right in forwarding those e-mails to spoof@ebay.com.

I do what Majinuub does and bookmark the actual Ebay site into my favorites, so if I do get an e-mail from Ebay I just go to My Ebay page from my bookmark. There's so many phishing spoofs out there it's always better to be safe than sorry. I'm glad it worked out for you hyelakingsfan, some people just don't realize it in time to be able to change it.

Any official emails that are sent from ebay are located in your ebay account "My Messages". If it is not in your "My Messages", then it isn't from ebay.

So if you see an email from Ebay, just log into Ebay, then click on "My Ebay" located on the very top of the page. Then "My Messages" located somewhere on the left side of the page.

*chuckle* I get these emails all the time. Usually, it's something strange like, "I don't understand your payment instructions for this item" and the item in question is an Indian pot or a laptop or something. 8O

You want to know what the funniest part is? I only get these emails in the email account that is linked to my paypal account, but not my ebay account. :rollin So unless I pay someone or receive money via paypal, there's no way anyone on ebay could contact me at that particular email address. :D

Another thing is that if you hover over the link that may be

the URL you get taken to and the one that shows up in the bottom left hand corner of my firefox browser is actually

"http://host178.155.212.97.conversent.net/" (DO NOT TYPE OR ACTUALLY USE THIS LINK).

This is from a real email from a spoof wanting me to log in to "Santa Barbara Trust Online", when I don't even have an account with them. XD

That's all people have to do is sit around thinking of ways to steal and scam money and time from folks. :(

Sorry that happened to you. :( At least you caught 'em before they did much damage!

I've been getting these emails this past week and it's starting to get annoying!!! They always hit my junk mail folder and I do open them but never click on any links on the email.

How stupid is this example:
I just received an email today that was supposedly from a potential bidder. The email really did have the name of one of my auction listings on it! However, the question was really stupid. They wanted to know if I shipped to New Jersey. HELLO BAKA! I LIVE IN NEW JERSEY!! :x

I knew this was a scam email and immediately delete it. I then went to my account just to make sure no questions were really asked by a bidder because eBay shows on your listings page the number of questions bidders will ask you. This way you can respond to them right then and there. So sure enough no questions were asked for this particular item that was stated in that email.

So watch those fake emails carefully! They may ACUTALLY have the title of your eBay lising in them but they really are fake!!
