Trying something new

I'm going to temporarily close my gallery to do some minor updates to it. Hopefully I can finish up by the end of the month. The good news is when it's reopened some new goodies will be added

Good luck with all your changes!

I've been making a lot of minor changes recently too. The only difference is if I closed my gallery while making them, I might not open up again for a year. I'm really slow with the changes. Hopefully, everything goes quickly and easily for you.

The 1st thing I wanted to do was delete some of the series in my gallery. I'm still a little indecisive on this. Should I keep each individual series with just 1 cel or should I just make a Misc. section? I also wanted to make a new banner and graphics for my gallery(I'll work on this more later). Right now I'm satisfied with what's there. I also did minor updates to the cels I already had. Last I wanted to add my new cels to my gallery. The hard part of getting the time to scan my new cels is done and saved to computer. Now all I need to do is add them. Maybe tomorrow...

I know lots of people have Misc sections because they don't like having a
category with just one cel in it. I can understand that preference because
it might look kind of empty or whatever. However, I don't organize my gallery
that way. I feel like placing a bunch of cels together that don't really belong
together is kind of unfair to the cels themselves. Seeing all the various
artstyles together might be off-putting. The Misc section might get
overlooked and individual cel hits might not increase.

I tend to gravitate towards series I love a lot or, alternatively, to series I
know nothing about due to morbid curiousity. Having all the categories
makes my browsing experience easier and more interesting.

This is just my personal view on the matter. I know lots of people prefer
the Misc section option, and that choice has its own perks. It just
seems to me that having a category for every series showcases the cels
a little better. But whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll look great

A banner using your cels (if I understood you properly) sounds like a
great idea! I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

One suggestion for your gallery makeover: descriptions. It seems some
of your cels don't have much info. It would be really nice to know more
about the cel itself, the scene, maybe your opinion about the cel, your
experience buying it, maybe some kind of anecdote....etc. It would
enhance the cel, as well as your gallery. Plus, it's a way for you to make a
more personal connection with the visitor. If that makes sense.

And get around to uploading those cels!

Yeah, the choice of posting single items categories or a miscellaneous section is a difficult one. I went with the miscellaneous section for a variety of reasons. One was that the main menu would looked cluttered with far too many titles. I also thought that it would be nice to have a section where people can click and get a quick overview of many images at a time, where they may never enter the section containing some of the cels. I collect a few series where the artwork is nice, but not popular, and so many items might never be seen otherwise. I even further broke down difference between my miscellaneous section and the others in that if I intend to collect more, and didn't pick the cel up just because I liked that specific cel or to check off the category, I will often give it it's own category, even if it only has one cel at the moment. wELCOME cOMSUMER had a really good point about traffic though. If you have titles which would normally see some traffic, that traffic is likely to be reduced by putting it in a miscellaneous section. It's definitely a tradeoff.

I don't think there really is a best way to do it in general. I think the way I have mine set up is the best for me, but I've been to many galleries where I think it would be a really bad idea. I guess each person has to just step back and look at their gallery as if they were a visiter and see what their impression would be under both configurations.

I asked this because I thought my gallery would look too cluttered. I personally like my cels having individual sections. Especially since I want to collect more for some of them.

I agree with you on this. I like when people write descriptions to their cels. I wonder what I missed. I wrote "description coming soon" on some of them since I could easily add descriptions to them when I upload the rest. The others I remembered writing something. I'll recheck this later...
