Oh craziness!! There to many to choose from, lol, but here are my top 5 anime series side characters:

#1] DBZ - Tien & Yamucha
#2] Fushigi Yuugi - Tasuki & Chichiri
#3] Inu Yasha - Kouga
#4] Ranma - Ryouga
#5] Rurouni Kenshin - Sano & Soujiro

Heh...let me think here. I favor a lot of the characters that have been mentioned, but my personal favorites might be:

1. Sayuri Kurata from Kanon:
Hopefully they'll be able to go into SOME of her story in the second Kanon anime in the Fall. The first Kanon anime didn't have time to show any of her story at all.

2. Mayumi Tachibana from Kakyuusei TV series:
I thought she was a fun character and I liked how she teased Tsuyoshi throughout the anime.

Earlier, I thought I might mention Sakura Matou (Fate/stay night) and Akane Suzumiya (Kimi Ga Nozmu Eien), but I don't think they're really "side characters" per se. They certainly weren't side characters in their respective games.

.... I recognize those Inukami guys from the avatar..... but the one ont he signature.... no clue

as for side characters..... mmmm, that's difficult, i'm a main character fan, no special one comes to my mind..... i'll have to think more....

She's from "Coyote Ragtime Show". I don't know her name. They might have mentioned it. I'm not sure. I liked her group's character designs and her's was my favorite.

My favorite side-character right now would have to be Chad from BLEACH. The guy just doesn't get enough screentime IMO

I have to go with Gin from BLEACH. He owns every scene he’s in. But I’m rather relieved he’s not being destroyed with screen time in the filler episodes!

Then there’s my all time favorite anime couple: Kiichi Gotoh and Shinobu Nagumo from Patlabor. Though since it’s an ensemble cast maybe they are too prominent to be considered side characters.

Oh and I’m besotted with Illumi Zaoldyeck from Hunter x Hunter. The blank faced, dutiful, un-self-aware assassin; who coldly chides his brother Killua for wanting to have Gon as a friend, even as he himself has been following Hisoka around like a puppy dog!
