How long have you been collecting?

Post by Sparta101 »

I have been collecting cels/gengas and daugas for about a year now, but i have seen so many galleries with countless cels. When did you start collecting and what got you started? I just wanted to own a piece of the Guyver anime and had only planned on buying 1 cel then i got hooked.

I've only been collecting for a year and a half. Like you, I intended on
purchasing just one cel from my favorite anime (Giant Robo) but was
instantly hooked! I've been a junkie ever since and have no plans of
quitting anytime soon :)

I started collecting in 2004, after I came across a 70% off sale at the now defunct Anime Chaos. It was just a few cels I wanted to hang onto or maybe sell at a later date, but after that I just kept buying more X|

I've been collecting around 4 years... something happened and most of my cels and sketches were destroyed...

No time to worry, It's time to buy more!

I've only been collecting 2.5 years now, and I opened up my Rubberslug gallery a little over two years ago (it celebrated its 2 year birthday on the 16th of this month). ^__^

And it was by pure accidental luck that I stumbled across RS too...because I never had the intention of uploading my cels online, but I'm glad I did, so that others can enjoy what I have as well. :D

It is amazing looking back at where I started to where I am now. My tastes on cels have drastically changed and I only have 2 of the original 10 cels I've bought still in my posession (both actually being the first cels I purchased). I still love goofy/silly/OMG scenes, but I've also been focusing on more serious/moving scenes as of this year.

I've been collecting since 2003. Oddly enough, the first cel I ever purchased was not for me. I got Weyrlady a Christmas present at one of Anime Museum's 1/2 Off sales. :^^:

My first cel was a Tenchi Muyo cel that came from Nichibei's website April 11th, 1997. I don't consider that I regularly collected cels until I put in my order for my Ranma/Soun and Ranma/Tsubasa cels on January 6th, 1998 though.

My first sketch purchase was for pan sketches of Fushigi Yuugi's Miaka and Kenshin about to pull out his sword I might have got in 1999. (They're both too big to scan) I didn't consider this to be important enough to write down so I don't know the date. X| I bought a few sketches after that - a Gatekeepers sketch, a Love Hina sketch (the same scene everyone else has), Green Green sketch set, etc. To my regret, I didn't actively search for sketches until December 2004. :(

I guess it's been 10 months now. At AWA last year, I didn't find much in the dealer room so i had money to spend and wandered over to the Asylum Anime table. I found 2 Noir cels that were reasonably cheap and bought them.
But I was content with my little piece of Noir. Until...

It's all BUMA's FAULT! He looks at auctions and all these crazy cel sites all the time, and shows me the pretty things he finds. So one day I ask about Fruits Basket and with in a couple days I have 3 websites to shop from.

So now my only worry is potential excessive debt, and that anything could ever happen to my collection.

Well it has been about 4 years this fall that I started off my collection. Of course, I started with my favorite series Dragonball Z and my favorite villian, Cell. Doesn't seem like it has been that long ago that it all began, but my collection has more than doubled just in the past 6 months. :D

mmm, so for me, i started on late 1995. A local store owner showed me some Marmalade Boy stuff that he had brought with him with his latest trip to Japan.... and among them there were some cute pieces of painted plastic. I said, what's that? some kind of wallscroll?.... and he gave me the proper explanation...... Then i decided to get one and asked for the price..... and ack.... it was the equivalent of $80 - $90, which was a lot for me, specially since i was still studying and had no income..... but in the end i got one....

Heh, if i only had more money then i would have got all his KOR collection but well, the past is the past.....

Anyway, even i started collecting in 1995 i didn't become serious until mid/late 2000 or so..... I set a webpage on geocities for my cels so that people who visited my anime mp3 page could take a look to them.... But the collection kept growing and moved to rubberslug on 2003.....

I used to collect many different series and my only requisite was to like the art and that it had to be cels of girls (but i could not resist to get a DB Gohan cel that i was able to sell years later for like 6 or 7 times the price i payed just because someone e-mailed me with the offer)....

Right now i have specialized so much that i only collect activelly 3 series.... (i sold half of my collection last year to afford some good pieces that had to have)
