first bank cel

Post by ginga123 »

hey there! ^_^

I should have asked this question a few weeks back when I did my last update; but, since I just acquired my very first bank cel, I was wondering, just out of morbid curiousity, and getting to know you a bit better^^, if anyone would like to take a walk down memory lane and tell me what your first bank cel was?

how did you acquire it? did you love it? why? do you still have it?

Keep in mind it doesn't have to be strictly from the Sailor Moon series either. :) I thought this would be fun because I love to listen to what others have to say and share in the community and in preserving artwork^^.

Hiya Ginga! ^.^

I actually have two bank cels I aquired at roughly the same time, so I'll just go ahead and mention both. And yes, both still remain in my gallery even though they were purchased about 11 months after I started collecting. :)

One is the Rei S Movie Opening cel...that I aquired from Acetate Addiction. Since Rei reminds me so much of my sister, and I loved Rei in that cute detective outfit, I was very happy that AA took my offer so I could give her a good home. ^^ As I re-watched the SM series over again, Rei quickly grew into becoming my favorite senshi, along with Usagi. Their friendship that they have together signifies a strong bond, even though they may bicker often. This is one of my favorite cels b/c of her cute outfit and the look of surprise on her face. This one isn't going anywhere as it will stay with me throughout my collecting years. :)

The second bank cel that I aquired not too long after Rei was through Luna-art, a very well known Sailor Moon collector. She's such a sweetheart and after talking to her several times about a bank cel she went through her collection and found that she had a similar one in her possession and she was willing to sell it to me. Estatic, I jumped right in and thanked her up and down. This cel happens to be the R Opening of Sailor Moon spinning with clocks surrounding her. I don't know what my appeal is with the clocks, but I love how they twirl around her. As I have mentioned in some of my descriptions in my cels, I love not just full frontal shots, but perspective shots from the side and profile shots. Even though this shot may not be a frontal, the way the animators drew so much detail into Sailor Moon still reflects movement that could be considered realistic...and those shots mean more to me than just a regular close-up shot. I guess it's the artistic nature in me that relishes those shots... ^___^

Wow that was long, but I'm glad I was able to share! Can't wait to see your latest batch of goodies Ginga, I'm totally excited for you! ^_~

Ah...my first bank cel ^.^ It was actually my cel of Pluto's Deadly Scream attack. I love Pu and she looks just gorgeous in her bank sequences so I had to have this one!

I was so excited that I told my family and friends (who were less than thrilled when I dropped the price on them!). But cels are priceless and worth it!

My first bank cel was one of Sailor Jupiter towards the very end of her transformation. It arrived with a copy matching background.

At the time I was still into completing my SM card collection and bought the cel on a whim. I told myself that I would never need another cel again.

...I also told myself the same thing after I purchased the Mistress 9 cel, the Angel Serenity cel and the Chibichibi cel....all of which were some of the first cels I purchased.

Hehe. Yep you have to hold up a bank to afford them.
I don't have one yet either :(
Bank cels are those that are of higher quality. Like the Sailor Moon transformation sequences.

Bank cels are cels that are frequently used in the production of an anime(ie. transformation and attack sequences). While bank cels are generally pricey, there are various degrees of the quality involved in the image.

Some images, such as those featuring the character farther away(ie. full body shot on a regular sized piece of acetate), do not feature as much fine detail as some of the close-up shots. Generally speaking, close-up shots of a character during their transformation are much more costly than those that feature a character in the distance.
