I get burned out after Updating 3 sketches or cels... What do you do to keep from burning out?

It takes me forever to update each one.

I frequently get burned out when I'm scanning two items on the same day. I end up feeling like I wasted time or something.

I decided to only scan two or more items when I have a lot of time (like on my day off from work) and when I'm feeling in a decent mood.

Scanning two or more similar sketches on the same shade of paper is the only time I have it easy scanning mulitple production items.

I always listen to some music while scanning. If I don't then I get burned out quickly. Try listening to www.japanaradio.com for some jpop and anime music and if you like christian rock you can try www.klove.com I love those two stations!

When scanning, I listen to music. It makes the time go by a lot quicker. When uploading...well, my computer is so slow that I really *can't* do anything else while uploading images. But if I could, I would recommend that you browse some other websites at the same time - it might make it seem less like a chore.

I'm one of those crazy people that likes to get everything done at once. If I leave cels and sketches sitting around too long, I eventually forget to scan them altogether.

i'm the same way as rei. if i have a lot of stuff to update, i try and do it all at once on day or night where i dont have lots to do.

to me i can go with out both. it doesnt bother me.
but as others have put you might want to listen to music or browse other sites.

I hear you, RoboFlonne!
It is tiresome scanning and doing all the image adjusting, it's the worst part of the hobby, but it also has rewards in that you have a nice final product to show off.
What keeps me going is knowing that after each scan, that's 1 less to worry about!
I sometimes prefer scanning the large items that require 3 or 4 passes on the scanner bed because it involves a challenge to get it alligned. The single dougas are too repetitive to be at all stimulating.

Listening to music at the same time is a good idea; but my computer processor is streatched, especially when the scanner is doing its thing and the sound chops up which is very frustrating.

It helps if you set yourself targets and don't get distracted. Once you're distracted, it's easy to abandon the whole thing.

I'm kind of strange, I guess, in that I enjoy the scanning and image editing process. I also really enjoy uploading and updating my website. I like to put on some favorite music or have a favorite TV show playing in the background, and I just go to town -- er, so to speak, that is.

I typically like to scan things as they come in, though. I have a small kiddo, so it's a lot easier to get the free time I need to do one or two things at a time than waiting to scan a bunch of stuff at once. If all else fails, I'll do the scan really quickly, and, then, come back and image edit later, when the kiddo is napping or I have more free time.

I mostly scan as they come in. It's more "exciting" that way, and it eliminates backup (not that I ever get enough for that to happen). I like to listen to my favorite tunes (Michael Buble, Morning Musume, etc.) or have my favorite show on the TV, which helps.

Since I didn't bother scanning for most of the years I collected, I have quite a lot to scan - regarding "burning out" - I find a nice cold drink helps prevent thqt (although, the kind of drink I mean, you do tend to slide a bit on the proper color balance after 10 cels or so -- )

Actually, I divvy the job. Scan and tweak at one time, upload and ID at another.

And a mirror on the desk so I can see the TV behind me isn't such a bad idea either. Subtitled things are out, but there's always a movie you don't mind seeing in "reverse"!

Heh, heh. Funny you should mention that ...

I have a beautiful Alucard print (courtesy of Crystal) hanging over my desk, and it's positioned perfectly so that the television reflects in the glass. It's a total life-saver!

LOL -- yeah. The only problem is that I keep on trying to lick the glass. All those smears on the picture frame make it kinda hard to watch TV. *snicker*

hehehe good points!

I don't drink anything at my desk because I'm a condensation freak. I hate it.
And I certainly won't handle any collectibles with wet or dirty hands.

I also scan one day and update on another day. However, it seems that I'll never get around to actually putting information up for each thing.

I also have my back to the TV at my desk, however, I'll just turn around for a little while during scans. The TV is usually on if I'm home and often it's on Food Network. I don't like conflicting sounds so I don't listen to music when I'm at home.

As far as burnout is concerned, I don't really know. I usually just surf and read message boards or watch (listen to the) tv while scanning.
I just scanned 62 images of my pencil boards (some were front and back). I got so excited about being able to share some of them that I guess I didn't get too bored.
Scanning a set of douga/genga can get pretty repetitive, and I often spend some time sorting through the set to decide which ones to scan. I guess that's where it starts to seem like a long time for a small reward.
