What non-YJ,EB and ManD auction sites do you check?

Topics of anime/other animation art and collectibles.

What non-YJ,EB and ManD auction sites do you check?

Post by hobbywhelmed »

In general, for whatever reasons.

What with ebay raising store fees, I've bee looking around to see what places exist where you can "park" more cheaply than on the bay. It's no surprise to anyone here that most cels and some collectibles seem to be taking a very long time to sell on the ebay and the net to fee ratio is dropping constantly. Since this also goes for other things as well, I started checking around the up-and-coming auction/sale sites around.

Bidville.com looked promising, and they were responsive to my inquiry about increasing categories on request of members. Wagglepop is nicely set up for anime/SF, but doesn't seem to have much activity going on at all. Epier, Romahawk, etc., all seem to be very low on bids and items. I realize none of these have even set a toehold into SF/anime regions, although some sites seem to be going the comics/figures route. They might have promise - or might not, in the long run.

So, as part of my research, I thought I'd ask if any of you, based on the little exposure these sites have given themselves so far, have heard of them and checked them out.

I would leave the bay, but all the other sites have hardly any activity, and my odds of selling things are even lower :( I admit that it HAS been very difficult to sell my things lately.

I used Yahoo! Auctions before, as listing fee are free or very low (not sure, it's been awhile) but I never got bids.

How much more likely is a cel to sell if it's put on eBay as opposed to making a post here?

Just curious since I've never posted to sell anything much less used eBay.

I think you can sell on eBay successfully, but for lower prices. I think dealing
one-on-one with a fellow collector is more favorable. You can hammer out
a compromise, like a payment plan, and wind up with a better profit. It's
kind of a gamble any way you approach it, unfortunately.

i agree with WC. also, i've noticed that people frequent Y!J more than eBay for series i collect. but i don't really understand why it should make a difference for the bidder. if there was a way to sell on Y!J i'd do it (is there a way?)

Find someone to sell for you via consignment. A dealer or collector living
in Japan could handle the process for a fee.

You know what scenario I see coming to mind?

You're up at dawn, hitting YJ - and you bid on one of your own consigned cels! LOL! Everyone raise your hand who ever put a cel on ebay and while searching a day later, got all excited at seeing your own listing title, and even clicked to see the auction! What a letdown when you recognize the cel!

It depends on what you're selling. See, I've only really sold low-end cels, which are far more likely to sell on Ebay than here.

Yeah . . . I've never even looked at some of those other sites . . . I know I checked out the English version of YJ, but I found very few anime itmes, let alone cels.
