Returned to Sender - What do I do?

Post by Zag »

Back in May I auctioned a Tenchi in Tokyo cel os Sakuya with her matching background (she had been a gift, but I was desperate for funds).
Auction winner paid, no problems, had some great communications from him. He needed shipping to the U.K. No problem.

But today, my cel came back to me. I mailed it on May 11. It got to the UK customs office on May 15. The customs office wrote up the duty fees on May 18. He never came to get it. The customs office held it until 6/7 or 7/6 (I can't tell which way they wrote it, month first or day first. Those wacky Europeans!)

So, it just arrived back to me today.

I've emailed the winner, and let him know it came back. I asked what he'd like me to do.

What have any of you done in similar situations?

If he replies and you need to ship it back, charge him an additional shipping fee.
The fact that it was returned was his fault, afterall.

If it's easier you can just ship it to me! /no1

That's really strange that he would leave it in customs for over a month. Non of my packages have ever sat in customs long enough for them to come back!

Hi Zag

We write it day/month/year in the UK.

Customs fees can get a bit pricey when they want, What with the Fee and or VAT then parcel force like to charge you a fee on top.
The last one I got was £25, so the buyer may not have had the spare cash for it.

But yeah do what wELCOME cONSUMER said, you shouldn't be out of pocket for their mistake.

I had a similar situation with a cel I sold to somone in the US and thats what I did.

Thanks for the info Bev,
He did write back. Never got a notice it was waiting for pick-up.
According to the stickers the customs price was only $8.89 british pounds.
I'll be sending it back to him. =D thanks for the advise everyone!
