I love the Winners! The Characters who Do everything right are usually my favorite! But Life isn't always like that, and in some anime... There are losers!

They can even be losers who turn out to be ok, Like Keitaro or Tenchi or even Naruto!

This is their 15 minutes of Fame!

Kos Mos mysteriously activates on her own!

Allen's instincts telling him...

"OMG! It's a Girl! RUN AWAY!

But the Question is "Who Turned Kos-Mos ON!"

Allen has never turned on anything with a female voice since he was 2 years old. Not counting turning on his answer machine once a day, when his mother calls.

The relationship between Allen and Shion is a comical type of Platonic love. Shion thinks that Allen is a good guy and is always there to help, but Allen is too shy to do anything about it.

In other words, Shion thinks Allen is gay.

Every Guy should own a sketch of this loser just to remind them, how not to become another Allen.

Now SHOW ME your losers!

He's the "prince" of the school but he can't win the heart of the heroine of the story. He's a perfect gentleman, strong, trustworthy, gentle... but he's just not what the girl is looking for - He's Yuki-kun

What about the loveable wolf-demon who tries the direct approach, but ends up only as "friends" with the main character and continually gets help from his rival, Inuyasha. Kouga tries harder than anyone, winning some of the battles and helping out, but never wins the heart of Kagome.

In Yakitate, Suwarbara is known as the best, until he comes up against Azuma...as hard as he tries he just can't win against him when it comes to baking and Kawachi has no hope at all of winning, ending up being the comic relief.

This one is a REAL loser! He had the heart of the most beautiful woman full of spunk and personality and he flat out LIED to her and DUMPED her! She of course could get much better, but in this scene the bastard finally gets what he deserves!!! HEHEHEHEHE

Let's see . . .

Issa from Gokudo is a wimp.

Tei from Gokudo is such a fanboy.

Gokudo from Gokudo is . . . well . . . Gokudo.

Rei from Urusei Yatsura is just plain stupid . . . but cute.

But . . . he can't get the woman he loves with his looks! Poor guy.

Kurosu Santa from Daa! Daa! Daa! is just plain weird.

Plus he got left behind when the gang went to America because he forgot his passport.

Rokutanda from MMB looses the woman he loves not once, but twice . . . the second time to his cousin. Plus, the animators obviously didn't like him, since they stuck him in green clothes so often.

It just doesn't go with his hair!!

As much as I hate to admit it . . . Ryouga from Ranma 1/2 is pretty much a loser, too. He gets lost all the time, he literally turns into a pig, and he can't even tell Akane that he likes her.

Poor guy. Come, here, little Ryouga . . . I'll sooth your broken heart . . .

I think there are much more definitional "losers" in shounen/seinen anime than female definitional "losers" in shoujo/josei anime. This is because of the old storyline plot point frequently used in shounen/seinen. This is where the main male lead is a "loser" or semi-loser, but by the end of the story he finds a great female character who likes him for his "heart" and not because he's handsome, has social skills or has money. He basically has a great heart and she sees through all the clutter.

Female lead characters in shoujo/josei anime are much less often blatant "losers" per se (unless we're talking about comedic characters of course). They might be poor. They might not be polished. They might only have average looks, abilities and social graces compared to the other female characters around them, but the "nerd/loser making out" storyline just doesn't occur in the same knock-you-over-the-head blatant manner it does in a lot of Generic Male Loser Lead (TM) anime.
