If I buy sequence mates, I keep the one I like best and cel the other(s).

I have a few sequence mates, and I love having them, even though a couple are ridiculously close. I have 3 (or is it 4 now??) from an obscure scene that I like a lot... I got one cel, then a better one showed up, and then another one... and I just got greedy and wanted them ALL! So I snatch up every one I can find from that cool move. However, I have been assured by my friend who loves to burst my bubble that even if I lived long enough, I'd still never be lucky enough to obtain the entire sequence. :x Rats.

I just sold one of my sequence mates yesterday. I tend to get sequence mates for only 2 reasons.

1. I forgot I already owned one in that sequence.

2. I bought a shot I like better than the original cel bought in that sequence.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

So far I have two pairs of sequence mates (the Priss-ness) but there's quite big differences between them because of the way the scene was set up with flash lighting and the general speed of the sequence. If they were closer to identicle, I might be more willing to sell one off but I like the composition in each. If I did sell one, it would be a real emergency after most of my other cels went first. I have a few series of sequence mates that I got by design, most obviously a series of Sakura capturing The Fly in the first episode of CCS. There were once a lot of these in dealers' bargain bag sites, and I got the idea of putting them together. It was nice because I could then begin sharing layers that the others lacked and make even the shabbiest ones look interesting.

And in a few cases I've kept sequence mates that illustrate the overall direction of a very dramatic cut (like my three Meilins vs. the Fight Card).

Overall, though, I'll get a sequence-mate when I think it's nicer than the one I already have, and at a good price. Then I'll sell the one it's replacing.

Exception: for CG shows, I really like to have complete sketch sets, and I don't like to buy broken sets or break them up. Exception: a MKR set that Snakeskii and I collaborated to win on YJ, and which we agreed to divide between us. Even there, we both included links on our RS galleries, so people could move back and forth and see scans of the entire set.

Good question!

I have a small number of sequence mates. A few are from Mosquiton and happened by accident. I would probably have no problems selling/trading spares of those. The ones from TnN however were deliberate. I have the complete sequence of Nekhbit taking off and flying towards the camera and I plan to keep them together. I also have sequence mates of OP cels, one of Noelle's dream of kissing Yuusuke, and 3 of Miruru. I like how they portray the movement of the sequence and I have no plans to part with any of them. :)

Speaking of sequences. Check out this crazy cel sequence of Kyoko (Maison Ikkoku) drinking a huge mug of beer:

That's a heck of a lot of beer mug sequence cels there. 8O

I've never had an interest in sequence collecting, but if the cel is different enough from the other one I already have I might purchase it.

8O That's nuts! But cool at the same time. Or maybe I'm just a freak. :emb

Personally, if I ended up with sequence mates, I'd sell the one I don't like as much. Except for a set of Ranma-chan cels that I'm trying to get the whole sequence to . . . probably won't ever happen, but hey, I can always dream! :D

I have a few sequence mates from a number of series and I would most likely consider selling/trading them if the opportunity arose....but nothings certain of course. That being said I certainly wouldn't break up whole sequence I had bought/collected, as I wouldn't have the heart in breaking up the set.

So in short, I pretty much agree with everyone else!

In the other 20-25% cases, I bought the second one because it offered a slightly different take on the first. It was a "different view" on a cel that I already liked.

I ended up with a sequence mate like this as well for one of my Aki cels. I paid... I beleive 3000 yen for one, and the other 1000. I liked both shots though... when i get the other one in the mail, i will have to take a look at both and think abot selling it on ebay.

I do have this large pan cel of when Tooya and Yuuhi were talking in the rain about aya and it went from showing yuuhi's face and the back of tooya's head and then Tooya's face and the back of Yuuhi's head... I have one of them, i want the other so it can match >_> I Have the one with Tooya's face.... I think i found the other cel in a RS gallery too. hahaha.... They are not so much from the same sequence, but from the same scene. I must scan my cel in and try to find the collector that has this cel(if you are reading this, PM me. haha).

As ageneral rule I dislike sequence mates but, if the two pieces are varied enough I'll concide to have 2 but am generally not opposed to selling whichever my least favorite is. And so far although I know I'll be adding a pair that came in recently there's only one instance of sequence mates in our gallery which are the the Kanoe/Hinoto death sequence ones and though it's my favorite sequence of the filmm I'd sell the one that isn't my dream cel if someone was interested. I've always thought having a bunch of sequence mates (especially if they're almost exact) kind of ruins the beauty of every individual cel to me. Sketch sets are a bit different but, I'm still likely to pull out one sheet and sell the rest together. I always feel kind of bad breaking them up but on the whole I don't want a pile of charcter turning just slightly frame by frame. There are a few exceptions though I have yet to part with any clamp sketches that don't go with their intended cels.
