Toonami Jetstream 24/7 anime online!

Post by hobbywhelmed »

So Cartoon Network is running all Naruto this evening, 7 to 11 (new shows 10 and 10:30), to initiate their new online streaming 24/7 anime site. The site is in conjunction with Viz, and will show both CN originals and anime, and is to be a free, ad-supported service. It starts the 17th, and this is the statement of the initial lineup:

"Five shows are scheduled for the July launch - Naruto, Samurai Jack, Hikaru No Go, MAR, and The Prince of Tennis. Only Genndy Tartakovsky's Samurai Jack is a Cartoon Network original. The other four are all Japanese imports, of which Hikaru No Go, MAR, and The Prince of Tennis will be shown in the US exclusively on Toonami Jetstream."

I'm glad for this too. Damn cable just refuses to pick up the 24/7 anime channel - in fact, Cable keeps insisting that it doesn't exist! They keep telling me that they have the "anime on demand" channel and that's all there is. Well, at $7 more a month, with a total viewing - if I was interested in EVERYTHING, never mind having to watch a show from the middle, there's a bit less than 2 days total viewing for the entire month.

the question is will we get the original subbed versions on this streaming thing or the dubs? gotta keep that into consideration.

but in general the idea sounds great. might have to see what this is about also.

Since this is a joint venture between CN's Toonami & VIZ, they're not going to stream a sub. It will be the dubbed version that may become available for sale later on DVD.

So have any of you seen the trailers? I must say I didn't visualize Hikaru's voice like it's portrayed on the site but Akira's sounds great - http://www.toonamijetstream.com/ - You need to use Internet Explorer - I sure do hope they keep the music though :)
