Anyone else love the Shinsengumi or at least know about it?

Ehehehe I'm a fan of the Shinsengumi! Ever since watching Rurouken, then Peace Maker Kurogane, then NHK Shinsengumi and so many others. I find their stories quite moving and a headache because well let's just say there's a lot of Tall Tales and sometimes the characters are way different from their real life counterparts. But eh... Oh well more stories for moi!

Anyone heard of Bakumatsu Renka Shinsengumi? I'm hoping it will get animated or something. Hmmm you all can visit my website if you like Shinsengumi too. Ehehehe http://hajimenokizu.com. Don't ask why I named it after myself, I wasn't really planning to make it all about those boy's in baby blue but they took over.

I have read several books about bakumatsu but until reading RK manga, I did not like bakumatsu too much b/c there were a lot of wars

But definitely it is very interesting era b/c there were so many interesting people lived

Me too. I didn't really know of the Bakumatsu until after Rurouken. And not the Shinsengumi until Saitou! My other favorite Shinsengumi is Kondou and Hijikata. Okita is nice too especially in Kaze Hikaru.

The history... I'm a bit slow in updating coz I can't read Japanese. So typing up kanji/kana take a long time for me. The bakumatsu was a weird time, there are many people now that I like eventho I've not seen them in anime or manga. One person is Enomoto-san, Hijikata worked under him in Hokkaido. I also like Shinoda Yaso, Saitou's first wife, not many people know about her too unfortunately.

Since I can read Japanese (I am a pure Engrish speaker from Japan

) so fortunately I can read some Japanese books about shinsengumi....

I do not like kondou and Hijikata too much... (there are several reasons) sorry

But I like Saito

Hey that's good that you know about Yaso! As for Kondou and Hijikata, I think I might know some of the reasons because again sometimes shows are not always the same as real life. It's a controversial group I guess and always will be. But you love Saitou! That's enough for me.

Kenshin I like but not as much as Saitou, coz I write fanfic for Saitou but not as much as for Kenshin. I'm not really sure if that's a good gauge. LOL

I agree - the RK Saito is cool.... I admit to not knowing much about his real-life counterpart though.

As far as I know he lived until 80 something. After retired, he worked at a girl's school as a security guy. He was vert scared of b/c he was always up-tight..... He really liked drinking sake. etc etc....

Hmmm…..

I’m not too crazy about the vigilantesque historical Shinsengumi, (the dramatic recreated Shinsengumi is another story

). Although I suppose they could be seen to represent new opportunities for the “common”(non Samurai) man to advance on his own merits, even as they brutally suppressed opposition to the dying Old Order of the Bakufu.

My Bakumatsu hero is Sakamoto Ryoma

, the man who brought together those two massive egos, Kido Takayoshi (Katsura Kogoro) and Saigō Takamori to make the alliance that would bring about Modern Japan!

I also am fond of the forward looking intellectual, Sakuma Shōzan…….

Of course, both of my heroes were cut down by assassins!
