Question for the computer savvy

Post by keeper »

First off, I would like to admit that I'm a moron when it comes to computers. But I want to try and sell my laptop because, well, I don't know why I bought it in the first place. I've hardly used it. :?

I purchased it for something like $899 (on a payment plan that took me a year and a half to pay off at my PT job) back in early 2000. It still runs on Windows 98, and has worked beautifully since. Though again, I've hardly used it. There is only the basic, original programs installed on it, besides DivX ('cuz I watched an anime on VCD using it). It comes with a battery charger, and internet hook-up (but I've never took it online).

I no longer remember what brand it is, however. The laptop says "Trogan" and I tried Googling that name, but all I got was Goggle asking if I meant Trojan (as in Virus). 8O The back just says "Multimedia Notebook Computer" with serial numbers and such.

It looks something like this:

My question is: how much can I expect to get for this laptop? Because I have no idea...

Thanks for your time!

I do not think the value of the system you run does not make so much value.....

Also you might want to post what process you have. How much weight? How much memory do you have? etc etc.....

How much do you think?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Oh, geez! Uh, neophyte me had to go pull up all the info on the system and here's what I came up with:

oem
GenuineIntel
64.0MB RAM (Memory)
System Resources 85%
Disk Compression Not Installed
File System, Virtual Memory and PC Cards at 32-bit

I dunno how much it weighs, just that it's incredibly light. And the flip-top of the computer is about 12" so I guess the actual screen size is 10.5". It has a storage case, and a dual-sided, extra padded travel case (both black leather-like).

Does that help? Anybody?

Thanks, kittens, for the reply! :)

IMO, I think it would be hard to sell..... (sorry to tell you :( ) Now there are a lot of nicer laptops for cheap price..... I would say prob less than $100 (prob around $50).

I have a 5 years old compaq and I am not selling it even though I just bought a new laptop b/c of this reason. I think it would be better for me to keep my laptop rather than selling it.....

Really? Well... shoots. :l

I'm probably going to just keep the laptop then. Thanks for the advice! It really helped, and I'm glad I asked here before wasting the money to put it up on eBay.

Appreciate it :)

Yeah, I'd have to say you probably couldn't get that much for a 6 year old computer. It's old enough that when I read "64 megs of ram" I started laughing X| Are you sure that's your harddrive??? I'm running on a hundred gigs right now and that's standard for new machines. (I bought this one in January). Even my mom's old computer has a gig.

I'd just hold on to it if I were you. Kittens was pretty spot on with the estimate. Or try to sell it on e-Bay, you never know!
