Do you collect/display cel sequence mates in your gallery?

If I buy them individually I do!! But if I buy them as a set I usually make a Animated GIF or show the best ones. Depends really!!

I'm the same way. I try to avoid buying sequence mates. I have in the past. Usually what happens is I wind up selling one of them. Typically I forgot I had the sequence mate or I'm getting it to "upgrade". But I do display both of them until I've decided which one to sell.

As far as sketches go, I'm a sequence mate collector galore. I want every single one I can get my hands on. I also display them all. I'm hoping one day I'll get off my lazy butt and animate them too. But please don't hold you breath.

I have felt the pull occasionally to buy a couple cel sequence mates when I saw them. They were fairly expensive though ($200 for one), so I decided to spend the money elsewhere.

The one I do have (Eight Clouds) was a serendipitous freebie from another auction!

The biggest exception is in my Gokudo collection, where a huge birthday gift from last year provided me with MULTITUDES of sequence mates.

If I ever get my latest shipment of stuff scanned in you'll see that I purposefully bought a couple more. Also Gokudo. He's so perfectly silly that I can't resist.

I'm pretty much the same way as duotrouble. In the past, I have had a few sequence mates, but eventually I ended up selling one of them. The only exception is in the 7 cases where I bought the entire sequence as a set. It seems a shame to break them up, so I still have them all.

Presently, I would only buy a sequence mate to upgrade and then get rid of the first. Even so, this almost never happens. There needs to be enough difference in quality to justify the cost of buying the new one and the inconvenience of having to sell or trade away the old one.

I don't remember ever displaying sequence mates. Even in the cases where I own the entire sequence, I have only one of them on display.

The only sequence mates I have are my Ranma-chan ones. Those I bought on purpose. I'd like to get the entire sequence someday, though I doubt that will ever happen.

Maybe I'm being a little hypocritical, but I really don't like when people collect sequence mates, especially ones that are portrait shots. I justify my own mates by arguing that they're a crappy enough shot that no one else would want them.

I have no sequence mates (save for sketches) but if I did, I would do so if they were significantly different (ie. eyes opening and closing, moved arm, etc.). Row after row of the "same" picture would get really boring and nobody would be compelled to click on them.

That's so awesome to see what thoughts everyone has about sequence
mates.

For now I may scan all the sequence mates I have and add them to
my gallery but if they start getting out of hand then I'll just narrow them
down a bit.

I find that amazing that some people prefer sketch sequence mates over
cels. I know there is way more paper available to collect than ther eis cels
though.

I've never really cared for sketches (unless they came with a cel I've
purchased) but now that companies have gone CG and only use sketches I
do find myself actively searching lately for them from certain series I've
fallen in love with.

As others have said, I don't like sequence mates if they are too similar to what I already own. I prefer some variety in my collection, shots capturing a range of emotions and scenes.

I do own some sequence mates but only if they are:

a) from a rare/brief scene in the anime
b) insanely cheap or absolutely free
c) have a different impact than the original cel I own

Here's an example of what I mean with c.

I bought this cel first: Charlotte with closed eyes
But I was originally hunting for this cel: Charlotte with open eyes

I thought I might sell off the first cel after obtaining the second cel but I found myself equally attached to both. The two are different enough to interest me. I feel each carries a slightly different emotion.

I know some collectors enjoy the actual process of animation and will actively collect sets/sequences. The results are thoroughly amazing, especially when the collector displays them as a gif. I just don't have the money for that type of investment but admire the collectors who do.
