I may loose my job

Post by bulma_gt »

Im highly disappointed of the company Ive been working for the last six years. It's an American company and they never legally settled themselves in the country, now they want to do it but in order to do so they have to give us propper contracts and they're telling us that all the legal obligations they didn't fulfil in the past are not going to be paid to us, if they pay us they won't renew our contracts, they lowered our salaries, and if we dont like it we can hit the road.

Im totally utterly disappointed... Ive given so much to this company, all my loyalty, I've never missed a day of work and whenever they needed me I was there, but they never appreciated it.

:( and I love my job!

That's the way corporations work. They have no loyalty to you.

My division just got sold to another company and our previous company
pretty much shoved us out the door. They picked all the close dates so that
they'd have to minimize the termination packages as much as possible. For
example, even though we worked nearly a full year, we got zero profit
sharing into our 401k plans since we didn't work for them a full year. On the
day of the close, they started turning people's badge access off at noon when
people were still trying to pack and move out. I came back at lunch and
couldn't get back into the building until I went across campus and got a
temporary badge. They even had maintenance people rebuilding cubes in
our area for people to move into the next day.

Indeed it does suck.

really sorry to hear that bulma! :(
My company just bought another company and then told us we had to move cross country if we wanted to stay (for those of us they even offered jobs to). I'm technically a contractor and they begged and pleaded for me to go so I went only to find out they fired the whole department in charge of paying me. Great. X|
There's just so much change in the coorporate sector these days - mergers, buy-outs, relocations, down-sizing, out-sourcing - its hard to stay in one company for long.

Anyway, look at it this way, someday in your future you will have a job you like, at a company you like, with some stability and all this is just what you have to go through to get there.

That sucks!

I can imagine that they're lowering salaries because going legal is going to end up costing them. X| :x But that's no reason to take it out on employees!

I've been hearing a lot of Beta members having problems with their jobs at corporations and I think it's sick...it's time for some rebellion here in America! Corporations are getting too comfortable up there on their pedestal!

oh no....

i was laid off three months after getting my first job, so i totally feel your pain. u can be the most loyal worker ever, but it will always come down to business politics in the end. *hugs*... but on a happier note! there is such a thing as jobs that treat their employees fairly... and i soon found a new and better job that may not pay as much, but it's fun and makes me happy. i'm sure something even better will pop up. i know everything will work out for you!

Definitely look for the other door or window. There's gotta be something opening up for you somewhere that will be better. :)

Thank you all for your posts. Im indeed hating these corporate rats for taking this out on us, I hate the way these companies are behaving as if they own everything and can do everything.

I would understand what they want to do if they had 500 people working for them in this country, but it's only four of us! :x the company is on NASDAQ, make 2 billions a year and yet they are having problems in doing the right thing with us? It's sickening. We don't want to take advantage of the company at all, we just want what it's fair for us.

I love my job and I would really hate it if I lose it. If I loose it would mean I'll have to sue the company for not paying what they had to and that would be the definite endng to the working relationship.

A new window? I don't know when Im gonna find it open. It took me two years and a half to find this job, and searching for new jobs suck big time. It's not that I wouldn't do it cos I would, but things are so bad economically that I know it's gonna be difficult.

I hate when these things happen. Work done has to be paid for sure. It doesn't even sound like your company would be giving out proper separation pay. One thing I can say though is... Always have that resume ready and also unless you have another one lined up do not quit. Wait for them to give the boot. I have seen some companies do this hoping that their employees would willingly leave so that they have no further obligation to them. Good luck though... One thing that comes to mind is... I know you love your job but you might want to re-think your future with this company if they treat their employees this way. Remember also that although it may seem you have no control over the situation, in fact you do.

Late arriving to choir practice again... but let me add my note of sympathy.

It's taken me a very long time and lots of disillusionment to conclude that giving yourself to a job -- any job -- isn't worth the anguish it can cause. Good work performance goes without saying, but being willing to give your all, all the time, means you get taken advantage of. (Not everywhere, of course, but...)

On the other hand, you have this stellar work record to point to if it comes down to it, which really ought to be worth a bunch in the search for a new job! Yes? :)

I hope things work out better than it's looking at the moment... but it's a good time to start casting the net!! :) There's bound to be someone out there who's just looking for some reliable talent :)
