I believe he withdrew from the event a couple of weeks ago, neh?

That's terrible. :O Shouldn't those entries have been removed and room made for other contestants in those respective categories?

Since this was pointed out to me...
blueheaven wrote:So far, Kymaera has been the only one to abstain from voting, even though a letter was sent to try and dissuade this act.
If such a letter exists, it was not sent to me nor would it have mattered.
Please stop making up things to try to make yourself make better and let the
matter die as we both were told to. I would appreciate it if you would just
please stop all public references to me so we do not disturb the peace of the
board. I am more than willing to do the same for you.

Thank you.

This is the first "public reference" I made concerning you since you withdrew.

Actually, I did send a letter. I will reprint it here.

Sent Wed, 22 Nov 2006 20:21:07 -0800 (PST) to ...

First off, I NEVER wanted you to withdraw from the contest.

Secondly, I NEVER threatened to ban you or anyone else from the Beta Awards.

If you think I was upset at some of the things you said, I was. And I had every right to be at the time. I offered to do things to make sure that the voting was as impartial as possible, and then you implied more needed to be done because I could not be trusted. When you imply that the contest is not fair, you are then implying that I am somehow trying to cheat you. Kymaera, I am about as honest a person as you will ever find. I may have a TON of character flaws, but lying is not one of them. I never edited a post to make myself look better. And no, none of your criticism came with any real practical advice. All of your advice simply meant more work for me and others.

http://www.anime-beta.net/phpBB/viewtop ... ht=#242912 - Ask anyone, I never changed the schedule.

I don't dispute the fact that you did answer questions and offer to let me use the awards, and I did(and still) thank you for that. What I was upset at was the seemingly pointless act of complaining about something that really didn't need to be addressed. Yes, I did "ASK", not "DEMAND", that people resize their images earlier one. But did I ask people who had already sent in images to re-send them? No. I didn't think it was THAT big of a deal. And I wasn't about to ask people who may have missed the post to do so either. So I made a post asking the board to do something. If I was willing to let it slide, then why did you have to make a big deal out of it? I was the one who had to deal with the problem, not you. Then, you implied that the contest was somehow unfair, which to me seemed like you were implying that I was trying to cheat the people. Do you know the shitstorm I have put up with since I took this job? Ask Krafty, Elot, or Wendy. I've been involved in three of the four awards, and I thought I knew what was in store. I've actually had folks create annonymous email accounts to badmouth me or sabotage other entries! Want me to forward you a couple? You yourself said it best...

"Plus, it takes a thick skin to be able to tolerate the endless debates. No
matter how the categories are divided, some percentage of people will be
offended because it affects their chances of winning..err...I mean "because
they are unfair and/or do not make sense". At least a half dozen of these
will then boycott the awards after posting about how the organizer has
ruined the whole event for them."

I really need you to understand how your criticism made me feel. Do I think you were actually calling me a cheat? No. I know you too well. But after weeks of harrassment from others, a bugger of a flu, and a post about a rule that I bent which was totally innocuous to begin with, I do have my limits. So, I am asking you, as a Beta member and as someone whom I like a great deal, do not leave the awards. I think, by putting people on ignore, you do yourself a great disservice. You are telling them that you are unwilling to address the past. And that is NOT who you are. If you require an apology on my part, then have one. I am sorry if my posts implied that you have done nothing to help. You have. Have a Happy Thanksgiving - Brian Lowery

Well, since the "Drop it!" edict isn't being enforced on you, I guess I shouldn't be bound by it either.

First of all, I never received that or any other letter from you. You do have
my email (which you kindly posted here for everyone to snag) from when I
submitted my entries so that proves nothing. If you did send it, I never
received it and yes, I do check the spam folders before I delete them.
I haven't had any other complaints of any mails to that email bouncing,
so it seems strange that only yours would do so. I suppose it is possible,
but not likely.

I think it all boils down to this:
blueheaven wrote:All of your advice simply meant more work for me and others.
You volunteered for this but all you've done since then is gripe about how
much work it is and how you don't have time for it. You know I didn't
really have a problem with the sizing...what I really have a problem
with is the "I'll only enforce the rules when it's convenient for me" attitude
that you have. Oversized entries = ok because to do them right would be
too much work, so I won't enforce that one. This, coupled with your "do
things my way or you'll be booted" attitude just rubs me the wrong way.
You simultaneously beat on people to do things your way...then you don't
even follow your own rules because it's inconvenient for you.
blueheaven wrote:This is the first "public reference" I made concerning you since you withdrew.
Nope. You responded to that post of mine. Scroll back a few pages. I
ignored it then because it wasn't that much. This one irked me badly
because it referenced a letter that I have no knowledge of and appeared
to me to be an outright lie.
blueheaven wrote:I am sorry if my posts implied that you have done nothing to help.
Saying "So far, kymaera has done nothing but offer criticism without a hint of help."
is far beyond implying.
blueheaven wrote:Secondly, I NEVER threatened to ban you or anyone else from the Beta Awards.
I have evidence to the contrary. Either you have or someone else has
made a damn good forgery in order to help put us at each other's throats
for no good reason. Based on my history of interacting with the two of
you, you're not the one that I believe. This whole thing started when, at
least in my perception, you were insulting and bullying to other posters
who were arguing against some of your more controversial category
choices in the award. That, along with various snippy posts by you here
makes me believe that the tone in the PM is yours. You may not intend to
but you've come across as a bully to myself and others many times.
Perhaps that is my perception, but that's the reason that I have probably
reacted stronger than I perhaps should have to your posts. I'm protective
of my friends and don't like anyone to mess with them, so I've given you
very little slack.

Perhaps this is just a personality conflict and we're both just rubbing each
other the wrong way. There is that possibility, but regardless, continuing
like this isn't going to make things any better.

I don't want to fight any more. I just want to exist here and be able to
post without you constantly digging at me or having to feel that I have to
get a dig back at you in retaliation all the time. Unfortunately, we do
seem to share one thing in common: we're both too damn stubborn to let
the other have the last word.

Yes, in all fairness to the other people entering, and in respect to Kymaera's wishes, the entries should have been pulled. But the contest organizer refused to do so.

On November 20. Page 13 of this thread.
Kymaera wrote:Consider this my formal withdrawl
from having to do anything with either you or the Awards this year.
and the response:
Blueheaven wrote: I must add this for the record: I did not threaten to ban kymaera or any other member of the board, nor will the entries be removed.
I thought the withdrawal had been public record for quite some time now, so I'm sorry to see Kymaera being singled out.

and...I've seen the pm to which the middle part of the statement refers. It most certainly says "I will ban you from the contest site." I don't want this unpleasantness to continue, but I'm tired of it being a "he said-he said" thing.

I know I'm not the only person who has also seen that pm, including the person to whom it was originally sent (who then directed it to Kymaera's attention). The threat is a fact. Kymaera is not making it up.

Consider it now being enforced. If neither of you wishes to drop it, please take it to PMs or e-mails, and this goes for any comments from the peanut gallery as well. The Beta Awards are supposed to be fun, so let's keep the corresponding thread fun as well.

It's dropped. Sorry to offend anyone, I was just trying to make things right. Maybe I should have removed Kymaera's entries, but I was holding out hope that things could be worked out in the end. Foolish on my part. Just one more reason I won't be doing this again(luckily for you guys). I removed Kymaera's email as well.

OK, votes will be counted and results made public soon. Good luck to everyone..

Ah - another reminder of why I stay as far away from
this as possible.

What is suppose to be fun, always turns into a big fight

I'm still having fun! Yay!

We don't know who won or anything, but I will definitely participate next year (though granted, I don't think I would want to run it!).
