Places you have heard jpop/anime music

Are there places you have been to and heard jpop/anime music, places you
were shocked to hear and never would have imagined to hear these songs
being played? Our local chinese restaurant occasionally mixes jpop into their
usual mix of chinese soft rock and traditional music.

So far I've heard:
Faye Wong - Eyes on Me (Final Fantasy 8 ending song)
Hamasaki Ayumi - Dearest (Inu Yasha 3rd ending song)

Hmm....Good question...

I heard some at my school once. But it was the anime club so that explains it lol.

I dont think i ever heard it in any restaraunts. Of course i havent been to many Chinese food restaraunts. I am more of a pasta person. Yum

But yeah...thats about the only place....

1. Local Japanese restaurant played an Utada Hikaru CD. Don't really think that counts as much though.
2. Heard the Pillows on a college station driving home from work once.
3. Local international TV station plays international (duh) music videos sometimes...there were a couple Japanese, but I could just ID the L'arc en Ciel.

Some of the korean restaurants I frequent play random assorted stuff, some of which is Asian pop music. I don't really know names, bands, whatever, so it all kinda sounds the same to me.

A local Japanese restaurant plays a mix from various Miyazaki movies, and I've heard general Jpop and other asian music in a variety of places around here. What I find the most interesting though is the amount of anime based music you actually hear playing in Japan. Many shops play it and even the news programs often use it as background.

I remember listening to Japanese radio when flying to Japan some year back, alot of which I liked. I've tried to get into j-pop afterwards but like Toni Corleone said- it mostly sounds the same. I don't like those sqeet quiet ballads that are done by these idoru girls either- there's tons of that about and it sounds really repetative, and sends me to sleep throgh shear bordem... i know there's a band called 'Glay' that alot of japongese were into while I was over there. Thought it was kind funny at the time because if you take the l out it becomes 'Gay' innit? -_-
