Have you bought any cels...
...of an anime that you have never watched? How do you feel towards getting cels from anime that you've never seen?
I have thought about it soooo many times but have never bought any. I came close but havent.

Yes, I have.
But! I must admit that I hate it when people with larger pocket books buy up the cels from the series I collect from when those people haven't even seen the series.
So, I make a point to watch the series once I have the artwork. Heck, I didn't post any of my CotS cels until I had seen far enough into the anime to identify the cels.

Yes, I have but usually with a couple of requirements:
1) I am familiar with the series enough to know about it (character names, plot, etc)
2) I have the desire to watch the series eventually if I have not already and assume I will collect it anyway.
3) the cel itself has aesthetic value and speaks to me. It's a stand alone work of art.
When buying these cels, they are my lowest priority because I don't know enough about them. For all I know, a better cel from a series I love could come up right after this, so I wouldn't want to screw myself over on buying a cel I don't know anything about. There's only so much money to spread around, so I must choose wisely.
Like Klet, I get a little annoyed when someone buys a cel I want from a series I know but they don't. Not that knowing something about the series automatically endows us with special privileges but we often feel this way. I don't think it's wrong to feel this way, it's just not entirely practical or realistic. However, I do like seeing hardcore fans purchase the cels they love most. Their gallery can be a real pleasure to visit and you know the cel will get good treatment (I'm thinking of someone like Tex, when she buys an Aya cel, you know it's in good hands! It's where it should be!
)
I try to present my unknown cels in an educated manner, so I know and the visitors know what it is I own. I also try to narrow the number of series I experimentally purchase from (which helps me to adhere to my requirements listed above). For instance, if I think I won't like the character or the series the cel is from, I avoid it. Visual merit aside, if I eventually watch the show and hate it, or loathe the character represented in the cel, then the cel becomes worthless to me.

I use to buy cels from shows I haven't seen. But I've tried to stop that, a big reason is b/c those mentioned by wELCOME cONSUMER and Klet. I don't want to end up buying something that may be on a person's wishlist, just b/c I think it's pretty. I would really hate to loose a highly desired cel just b/c someone thought it was pretty, and doesn't know the series at all.
I did recently purchase a Puss In Boots cel, and I've never seen it, but it was $4, and the kitty looks like my Aisha, so I couldn't resist.
The only show I have in my gallery that I haven't seen anything from is Mon Colle Knights, and then its only a handful of cels.

I have a few that I bought before catching the anime and a couple from shows I've still yet to see. Generally it's because it's either from a series I plan to catch or whose artwork is just stunning
I don't tend to spend a lot on these items, because after all I might not like that character or series at all

Well lets see... The only time I -buy- a series I've not seen is when it's cheap and no one's bidded AND I am looking for a certain group of characters to turn up in that show...

I've thought about it but never done it. Cels just don't mean as much to me if I can't relate to the character or the scene.
There is a certain artist though that has convinced me to purchase work from her from shows I've never seen. But I think she's wonderful and I usually wind up watching the anime within 6 months of purchase anyway.

Let's see...
1) 12 cels (1 American commercial, 1 video game and 10 anime cels) from shows I have never seen.
2) 7 cels from shows I had not seen at the time I bought them, but have seen since.
I am not counting seven additional cels I got as freebies. That comes to 19 cels. Nine of them I bought because they had cats in them and I like to collect kitty cels for my Shades of Gray-mousers section. The other 10 I bought because they were pretty. Most were inexpensive and I could have easily been outbid if they were other people's wishlist cels.
The Mon Colle Knights kitty cel was $0 - technically a freebie but I counted it as bought in the list above
The Mon Colle Knights unknown dragon cel was about $9
The unknown fish cel was about $7
The Tony the Tiger cel was $30
The Violist of Hamelin was $35
etc.
There are only four that are worth more than $100 (two of them I have since seen the shows - Fuu from Rayearth and the cats from Sailor Moon). So I guess I do have two that I feel a bit guilty about
