And now something completely different

And now for something completely different...
I have uploaded some scans of some items I have from the late Will Eisner.
http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/mast ... esID=27271

Will Eisner , creater of The Spirit comic and the 1st Graphic Novel said the the work he was most proud of involved making instruction manuals for the Goverment that were designed to teach life saving tips for the young solders conscripted into the Vietnam war. It was thought that the young men in their teens would respond better if the instruction was done in a "comic book" rather than a dry printed manual. Will told our group that he was touched to recieve letters from the troops thanking him for helping save their lives in combat by remembering things taught in these books that stuck with them.

Will was quite surprized when I brought a couple of those books to him at the Comic-con to sign and spend several minutes showing them off to the crowd assembled.

Also I scanned the cover & signature page from an edition of Moby Dick, Will completed and released shortly before his death. So i hope you enjoy some rare items and a little bit of history.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

Ah...the great Will Eisner.

That's pretty neat JWR! I wonder if my uncle ever read the engine maintenance section of it. He likes to joke about his humorous truck driving experiences in Vietnam. :)

I was lucky enough to meet Will Eisner once. He was extremely kind, even signed some works of his for me. I have been a fan since my father introduced his work to me. The Princess and the Frog being a favorite of mine seeing as my parents interests grew to become mine as well. It was a sweet mixture of both parent, my father's love of comics and my mother's love of fairy tales.

It was sad to hear of his passing in 2005. Such a great storyteller/artist, it's nice to see others appreciate his works. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I wonder if we should send manga to our troops in Iraq!
US soldiers at least have a website where they list things that a certain group of soldiers need.

http://www.anysoldier.com/

I surf on that website alot while I am here at work. i have seen on there comic books/manga listed before. :)
