What a difference a new monitor makes

Post by graymouser »

Heh, no need to respond. I just had to say WOW!!!

I always knew that my monitor was old and tended to wash out a lot of the paler colors, I just never realized how bad it was. I hooked up my new monitor a few minutes ago and every thing looks different. I can actually see the sketches in people's galleries. Before, they just appeared to be white rectangles with very pale writing.

Webpages look totally different. I have been with Rinkya for years and never realized that there are pictures of rings on the background of the myrinkya section nor that rinka was written on the backgrounds of the auction pages. Those colors never showed up before. This forum looks completely different too.

Sorry to be boring you all with this, I guess I'm still in shock.

I am going thru the same thing, only I now have to redo most of the scans in my gallery because they were adjusted on my old moniter and they look like sh*t. Have to do the banner again and replace the backdrop image. :(

All because I can actually see the pages now

I think the scans in your gallery look great as they are glorff. With the number of items in your gallery, it would take forever and be a huge nightmare.

I've known for a long time that my monitor was "slightly" off, so I never bothered to adjust my scans very much for color. It seems to me that there is too much variety between monitors to get 100% color accuracy for everyone who looks at them anyways. Even when you look at brand new TVs in the store, the colors are often radically different. If you are unhappy, maybe just redo the ones you feel are the most "off".

My moniter was dark, so I tried to lighten the scans and washed them out. I have already replaced over one hundred, but there are still some bad ones left and quite a few that are marginal. :x

Thanks for the compliment though, I want everything to be better and I guess I am accustomed to my cels, so I think everyone elses look better. :O

Don't forget to calibrate. Doing it by eye is decent enough but this device is really amazing. I absolutely love it!

Thanks WC. I have never heard of that kind of device before. I guess my ignorance shines through again.

There's a mode you can leave it on where it periodically scans the room for the intensity of ambient light, so the monitor can automatically adjust for the best visual results. Isn't that freaky? It looks like a sci-fi movie (think the beginning of Aliens, where the cryo pod scans the room with a red laser... ok, I'm officially off topic now... 8O)

I don't think many people know about devices like that but it's essential for art and scanning cels definitely falls into that category.
