Request for help - cel discussion 101

Hello all,
as some of you may know, I am involved with my local anime convention here and I (overambitiously) volunteered to run a panel on an intro to cel collecting. Now, being the person I am who is much more into video work and such, I wanted to see if I could do some sort of powerpoint type presentation and I needed to get some help from you fellow collectors to expand on the areas that I don't specialize in, and hopefully someone can help me out here!

So, what I'm looking for are the following:

1. does anyone have a 'full set' of images - genga, dounga, cel and background images, all matching? Series doesn't matter for the most part (well, no adult-themed things as this is a family friendly con) - I'd just like to show the progression from the initial stages to the end product. If you have the storyboard images, that would be great too, but the main gist would be the above so that the attendees would know the process.

2. does anyone have a set of sequences that they wouldn't mind sharing - especially long ones. It would even be better if it were a series that I had the anime for so I could actually find the scene in the anime and then splice the imges into the 'actual' anime.

3. anyone willing to share hanken images (and if you have a pic of the actual item they went on that would be awesome too)

Any and all help would be appreciated. The actual convention isn't for a few months, so I don't need this like NOW NOW, but as I have other panels to run as well (like an AMV 101 panel too that has to be revisited since I made it last year), I'd like to try and get a lot of it done sooner rather than later.

sure you can use any of my images I have a Hanken sketch pluss the card for my Bleach Hanken. I also have lots of animations for all my Bleach sketches If you wana use any feel free.

RoboFlonne - It's for Kawaii Kon 2007. I'm an assistant tech director there but I wanted to help expand the kon into other areas of anime interest (like cels and cel collecting as well as AMV's and other stuffs too). The assistant director (who is also a member of this board, but I know is busier than heck) is also a cel collector, so maybe I can muscle him into helping out too :)

Sparta101 - awesome! Thanks. Much appreciated. I will take a look to see what you have and hopefully I can utilize some of them.

Anyone else want to volunteer a portion of their collection?

If you like I have Inuyasha sets - Layout, genga, douga, shuusei, background, and cel. I may even have the storyboard, I have to check. :)

Howdy!

I'd be more than willing to help you out. I have several cels that come with a complete layout(well, minus genga..most Sailormoon cels don't come with corrections), but I do have several cels with the production layout. I also have several commercial cels too, and own the card that one of my hankens was used for...

I've a couple of Bleach hankens left you can feel free to use. :)

Don't think I've got any entire set ups though, or sequences other than sketches. :?

I also have a few complete set-ups and books but no complete sequences. I've never been able to find a complete sequence from a show that I really like and I doubt I ever will. But I can see why one would be very important for your presentation because they demonstrate the animation process in a dynamic and interesting way.

Hey, I just thought: I've got five cels from an opening sequence of Ranma 1/2 season 2. ^_^
Feel free! :D And I've animated the first four, because the last one breaks up the motion too much when it loops.

I have a long sequence from TnN - 11 cels with a dramatic difference between first and last. I currently have 2 in my gallery.

I have quite a few full sets of cels with backgrounds and sketches, but it looks like you won't need any more. :)

Isn't animation fascinating? It works because of a phenomenon known as the persistence of vision. Iconic memory allows the brain and the retina to retain images for a brief moment. When a series of film images are displayed in quick succession, it creates an illusion of motion rather than the perception of individual frames disjointed from one another.

Most animation is shot on "twos," meaning one drawing is shown for every two frames of film (which usually runs at 24 frames per second), so there are only 12 drawings per second. More expensive animation is shot on "ones" to provide quick, fluid motion, while cheaper series (think Saturday morning cartoons and serials) are sometimes done on "threes" and even "fours."

3-D CG animation is produced with key frames done by the key animators and the inbetweens are completed by inbetweeners and the computer programs themselves. Left to default, the movement completed by the program is extremely fluid because it contains every frame. High frame rates account for realism because you see more frames per second (which is the "ones" I mentioned above for 2-D animation). Stylized 3-D movies are made by removing some of those inbetween frames, which creates an interesting effect in the movement. It resembles 2-D animation and is one of the ways studios can blend 3-D effects seamlessly into a 2-D animated feature (think Justice League Unlimited, Howl's Moving Castle and Steamboy). If the 3-D frame rate is too high and the movement is too smooth, it stands out from the 2-D animation and won't look right to the audience.
