We stayed in Shinagawa. Our hotel was westernized and right across the street from the JR line. And they had a shuttle bus to and from the airport. :)

I stayed at one of the Prince Hotels when I visted Honolulu in 2003. If you've travelled a bit and are familiar with hotels, I would say that their quality is about equal to that of a Hotel Melia resort..or, in other words, fantastic.

When travelling abroad, especially to places where you're not familiar with the language, your best bet is to always stay at a 4-5 star hotel. These places will generally always have some sort of english speaker there, and, as most 4-5 star hotels feature the best rates for currency exchange, it's worth the extra $20-$40/night that you'll pay. Additionally, they also have better amenities and standards of cleanliness...which, is good, especially considering that some places, like Europe, are notorious for bed bugs. The last time I went to Spain, the cheaper variant of the tour I went on(they stayed at 2 stars and hostels) were plagued with bedbugs, while the tour that I went on(3-4 star hotels) did not have that problem.
