I've only read some of the manga, is the anime similar? The art style looks right and the plot intrigues me.
I've read the first five volumes, and it is almost indentical plot-wise. The character design has been cleaned up a bit (after his first adult appearance, Johann is cute! ) but other than that, it's very similar. :) Only available through fansubs, though.

Ah, wow, sounds good then. I hope they import it, it's a manga I really enjoyed (the manga has been brought over, so maybe the anime will be too).

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Yes, Higurashi is horror.
Prepare to be incredibly confused.

It's based after a highly successful
series of horror video games.

If you're going to watch Boogiepop Phantom,
For god's sake watch the live movie Boogiepop & Others,
first or you'll never understand what the hell is happening.

More spiritual horror than bloody, there's Ghost Hunt a relatively new
offering being subbes by SHS and Shinsen-Subs. Only 9 eps. released so far, but I'm digging it. ( http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/903.html )

If you can find it, try:

I like xxxholic by clamp, some epis give me goose bumps. :? There is also comic moments and moral behind each story. The other one I recently watched is Ayakashi Japanese Classic Horror. You get to learn abt Japanese heritage and culture as it's set in the past.

'Why don't we just mix up absolutely everything and see what happens?' he said.
And Ridcully responded with the traditional response. "It's got to be worth a try,' he said

I hate horror as a general rule, so I don't have any favorites, but I have seen:

No, I haven't seen any axe cleaver cutlery sets recently.

They were probably limited editions and the people that have them don't want to part with them. I know if I had one of those axe cleavers I would use it to search my house after I got home from work. The one I use right now isn't intimidating enough. :(

Hey Roboflonne...have you seen this Higurashi website of the real-life Higurashi inspired locations?:

Check out the actual valley that's shown at the end of the Higurashi Opening animation:
