My collection isn't worth nearly what many others are, but just a few weeks ago my husband asked me to put a value on my cels so he could add them to our insurance policy, and I have absolutely NO idea what to tell him. And, frankly, I'm half afraid to figure it out!
Most I have spent on 1 cel was $1k with around 20 in the $500 - 750 range. I have been lucky with several series not being that expensive so my overall average for each cel runs $225.

I expect that it's more like "I don't want him to know how much I truly spent "

A lot of my cels cost me over $1k. A lot of my cels are worth over $1k. I would say a good estimate is around $500 a piece on most of my collection. But, that value fluctuates on a daily basis.
Well, according to my Excel Spreadsheet that has the majority of my collection up to 2005 (I need to finish adding my purchases from 2006 & new ones from 2007), the average price per cel in my gallery is about $50.
I'm not sure if I should feel elated because the average price per cel is reasonable or dismayed because I have a lot of cels in my gallery.
I have nooooooooooooooooo idea Frankly I think prob $100 or less...... Some Kenshin cels are expensive but most of my cels are under $100 (this is from what I paid since I am no intension to sell any so I do not care any market price )
Because it would tell me how many times over I could have replaced the Carpet Formerly Known As Beige. (Which is STILL on the floor, Shellie! I'm such a slacker!)
Ok if pressed I would think the average before about 2003 would be something like $45 and the average afterward... would be blown all out of whack by the fact that I discovered Kenshin.

I haven't kept good records for some time. I kept good records from 1997-2002, but in 2003 and early 2004 my recordkeeping became sketchy. By late 2004 I was only writing down what I got, where I got it and what deputy service I used. The prices I paid are in my old e-mails. I could look up prices by comparing dates, but it would take a lot of effort.
As of late 2003 I averaged about $95 per cel. But I think my average is lower NOW because of the numerous cheap Tenkousei cels I've purchased.
Now if somebody later asks "What anime do you have the most cels from?" I could answer that easily since I had to update my title list after trying to figure out how many worthwhile countable "cels" I owned.
i have absolutely no idea what so ever. The most I have ever spent on a cel is $400. But since I have a collection of 37 cels, where my most expensive one is $7-10. I -REALLY- don't know. =S
I would say that the average price I've spent on a cel would range from $400-$600. However, there have been ocassions where I have spent over 1K to acquire some of the cels that I own.
Since I basically divert my overtime earnings to cel collecting, in a way, I'm proud of the hard work I put in to earn these cels. In a few years, it's likely that the quality of art that I collect will be sparce on the secondary market, making what I hold much more valuable than it currently is. Of course, since I have no intention of selling my cels, I suppose I could say that it is already a priceless collection.
