Ghost Rider - What the hell?

Post by wELCOME cONSUMER »

Ok, the more ads I see, the more I want to vomit. There's about a million things wrong with the movie, from what I see.

Here's a few...

Nike Cage is about a hundred years old. That dyed hair ain't foolin' anyone. If you look at the IMDB entry, Matt Long is credited as playing "Young Johnny Blaze." Anyone see the problem with that? There shouldn't be a "young" Johnny Blaze because he should just be young. Johnny is supposed to be a tortured, lonely, bad ass biker. Not some decripid old man (that's the job of the Phantom Rider or "Caretaker" in this film). Shoot, Cage should've been cast as the Phantom Rider. :?

Alright, age aside, let's say Cage is perfect as Johnny. Fine. Why is Ghost Rider such a jokester in this movie? Cage delivers these Schwarzenegger-esque one liners with a grin smeared across his face, as if his body were not being consumed by Hell fire. WHY? Since when is Ghost Rider a freakin' comedian?

The movie looks painfully cheap too, like the Fantastic Four. Which just adds to my annoyance. It could've been low budget but stylized, like any of Guillermo Del Toro's or Robert Rodriguez's movies. Instead, everything is brightly lit and the camera angles are trite and simplistic.

Was anyone even trying to make this movie good during production? It seems Cage isn't even attempting to act and the actor they chose for Black Heart looks like a total douche bag.

And OH MY GOD, what's up with them playing "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood & the Destroyers during the newest trailers?! WHY?!?! It's beyond a joke now, it's complete and utter farce. I can only hope and pray they remake it, a la Ang Lee's The Hulk (which was a fabulous movie and didn't need to be remade).

Will I watch it? Yes. Not sure when, but I must see how utterly terrible it will be.

Yeah seeing Nicholas Cage with the lead role had me raise an eyebrow. Fabulous actor, granted, but perhaps this isn't his cup of tea. Hmm...guess we'll see how it pans out in the end. Who knows? It may turn out to be pretty decent (but don't quote me on it).

Heh, i agree with you. Its pretty strange they are making a ghost rider movie at all really. His last hay day was like the mid 90s and one would think the casual fan has no clue who he is any more. Ghost Rider should be a young guy unless they wanted to go with the whole Dan Keith midnight sons kind of them and make johnny blaze more of a mentor.

Lookin' forward to 300 though (again)!

Seriously, just thinking about GR makes my eyes bleed with sadness.

*whines* It's just not fair. Ghost Rider is the ideal comic property for a movie because the story is so dark and brooding. There are some seriously cool aspects to the GR canon, I honestly can't believe how much they screwed it up.

On a side note, I loved the Shadow! I watched History of Violence recently, and that's a thrilling comic book-turned-movie. Highly recommend it.

And yeah, 300 will be fantastico. It's amazing how much it looks like Sin City. It's nice when directors figure out that making a low budget movie doesn't have to make the end result "look cheap." You can be creative, artistic and efficient. I already went over that in my original post, but seriously, it's amazing how incredibly under budget a movie can be and still have drop dead gorgeous visuals. GR could've done that... could've... :ZzZz:

So should I go watch ghost rider just to make fun of Cage? When will it be out?

Personally I think Cage does a good job acting as a psychotic pathetic lunatic trying his best to look cool.

If this is low budget, I had no idea Cage is low budget material.

Looks low budget production. Static camera angles and boring lighting tends to do that. Movies can cost anything, but if the director and production team don't do a good job, the movie will look cheap. Cage was dying to be a comic book hero, he would've done anything to make this movie. He was attached to other properties in the past, such as Superman Returns. Cage even has a flaming skull tattoo on his arm, he's basically a fanboy at heart. He admits to being an avid GR fan and contacted the director (sound familiar? That's what Charlize Theron did with Aeon Flux... and you know how good that movie was...). If there was a pay cut involved, he would've accepted it.

Who would have been better than Nico Cage? Right off the top of my head: Christian Bale or Keanu Reeves

Ever since I heard that Nicholas Cage was cast as Johnny Blaze, I knew it wouldn't work. But, being the Ghost Rider fan that I am, I'll watch it anyway :P

On that note, though, I really am looking forward to the sequel involving the Silver Surfer. Pretty cool trailer for it is already out:

I see some potential there 8)
