How many inform-if-selling lists are you on?

Post by Keropi »

How many let-me-know-if-you-decide-to-part-with-this collector's lists do you think you're on?

I was thinking about this last night. I've so rarely asked about other people's items. I think at the very most I'd only be on two people's (mental) checklist - assuming they both recall my inquiry. I doubt it though.

How many collector's "Inform Lists" are you on? (if they all remember you that is)? :P

I don't know if people remember about my inquiries or not. I always make a point to gently pester people who own things I like. The objective is never to annoy, but simply compliment the collector's taste and inform them of my interest "should they decide to sell."

Now, if they forget me, that's understandable. I'd never get mad. But you never know when this kind of communication will pay off, landing you a sought after prize. Never hurts to try.

Some of the series I collect are not high on most people's lists, so the fan base is fairly tight knit. If someone is selling some Giant Robo, they know where to find me. :) Skipping the auction middle man and directly approaching an interested party is often times a better bet.

I am currently on 5-6 people's list if they still remember :emb

I think alot of the time they say "I'll put you on the list" on in reality there simply trying to find a nice way of saying "I dont plan to sell anytime soon however on the remote chance I do remember you I might let you know if someone else hasn't offered me more money."

I'm with EOP on this. I've had my fair share of collectors tell me that they "promise" to let me know as soon as they decide to sell something. Only 2 out of a bunch have kept their word when it came time to selling. I keep a list of interested people of the cels that they have keenly have interest on, so that way I know to contact them first. I'm fortunate to have very good tidings with a well-known SM collector, so I feel that we can inform/sell to each other with no problems.

I'm only miffed about one of those collectors, who promised me one of my dream cels, only to find out that money mattered more, even though I had expressed interest in this cel quite a few times and even went higher than my previous offer to counteract the higher offer that was sent in. All is well though, as I managed to get a really nice cel from near the same sequence later on. It just matters on the type of person and whether or not they really keep a contact list.

I have contacted two people in the past - but one email bounced, and the other person never contacted me back. Either they were ignoring me or didn't get the email as well. Wish they had, because I still really want that cel :(

A few of my cels (well, OK, one) have interested buyers, and though I have tried to keep track, it was at least a year ago, so I've forgotten their names :(

I don't think I'm on anyone's list... i tried once for a very high wishlist item, but the item was sold and i was never contacted. While I don't blame the person for selling to some-one else, it still really sucks to be expecting something to be yours then finding out it was sold to someone else... i can't even find the gallery of the owner of the cel so i can drool over it. :P Such is life though... And I've just decided not to be put on somone's list, much easier to see a cel i'd want get sold elsewhere if I'm not expecting to see it in my gallery.

I have had a few people who know the series I collect, send me emails about things they are selling, and that's really cool ^_^.

I have several cels in my collection that have some interested parties. They each have their own folder called "First dibs on CEL X." I know there have been a couple of times when I've forgotten to message someone, and it makes me feel utterly rotten on the inside.

You might find that I am the gallery of the owner of the cel so he or she can drool over it. Only just? How did you decide?

I'm not sure I'm on the "list", but, I have requested to know if a certain cel would be sold from another Sailormoon collector. I'd still love to purchase it, but, it's a lovely piece that I'm sure she'll never sell.

Not like I fault the collector for doing so - There are many cels that I will never sell, so, I can identify with the sentiment.

I don't mind if I get passed up. I consider myself fortunate enough to have the collection that I do, so, missing out on an item doesn't bother me. Sometimes you get lucky and manage to arrive on that site as soon as it updates, and sometimes, you get left with the stinky seconds.

Some people know how much I like Fruits Basket.
So sometimes I get to buy some before they get made public, but that doesn't happen very often.

I once told a collector to let me know if she wanted to get rid of a certain cel, but then she sold it. X| :l

I've asked about one other cel, but I've never seen this collector sell anything before. I'm on the list, though, should she ever decide to part with that cel. It was an action loss, and I haven't even seen her put it up in her gallery yet (I want to drool! ).

I've got a couple of people on my "sell to" list. Basically, I just put the names down in the "hidden comment" portion of my gallery. :)
