Best way to find exact backgrounds?

Post by Labinnah »

Hi!
I'm looking to get some backgrounds for a handful of cels, however, I'm extremely picky with them - I want the exact background from the scene the cel comes from.

At the moment, I don't have Photoshop or anything to really do 'screencaps' with (and I'm not entirely sure how to do it right anyway). I've found some folks with the backgrounds I'm looking for, but they haven't responded to my requests for xeroxes (even after offers to pay).

I've looked through Ebay, YJ, Rubberslug, and here and haven't found what I'm looking for, so... is there any easy way to do this? Some easy-to-use downloadable software that I've missed somewhere along the lines?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

You need probably a high resolution Screencapture and then some editing using Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.

I've tried lots of free programs, but I wouldn't know what to do without photoshop. /wah

If you're looking for a physical copy, though, unless someone who has the matching background is willing and/or able(as in some cases, the cel is permastuck to the background) to make you a copy, then, your best bet is to hunt for a background similiar to the one you need on auction sites.

I tend to buy a lot of backgrounds, either because my cels came without backgrounds or because the artwork on the background is incredibly beautiful. If you're patient, you might be able to find a background that is, while not matching, a very similiar copy to the original.

Depending on what you collect, backgrounds tend to be a lot cheaper than cels to purchase...unless, of course, you're looking for a full moon background. Moon backgrounds can be pricey.

I know you have mentioned that you checked Rubberslug but I thought I would post their bg gallery link just in case you didn't see it on the site.

Hi again!
Thanks for all the replies, I am looking for physical copies to use with the cels for display purposes. Most of the cels are from Trigun, but the backgrounds for the particular scenes are so strange that finding something similar has been kinda difficult =\

I did look through the Rubberslug shared gallery, and it has some nice things on it. I'm not familiar with Photoshop or any other digital editing tool, unfortunetly, but it looks like I may have to use it to get what I need :P

Once more? Hello there. That is something I haven't heard of. But not all of them?

The only thing you can do is download hi res backgrounds and get them laser printed or buy original backgrounds. I cannot think of anyway even using photoshop to take screen caps and use them for backgrounds unless you are willing to sacrifice on quality backgrounds are used for lots of different cels and unless your cel was sold with it they can be almost impossible to find.

There might be others.
