How many of you know more than one language?

Post by Sugarflower »

I was thinking about this today. About how wonderful it would be to know
the Japanese, Greek, and Spanish languages. My reasons for wanting to
learn these languages are: Spanish: It's pretty much the second language of
the USA, Greek: My husbands family are Greek and a few members
only speak it and no english, Japanese: who wouldn't want to learn it? :P

So I'm curious. How many of you know a second language (or more)?

I'm just finishing up intro Japanese right now, and will be continuing with it for the next couple years at least... After that I'd like to take Korean or Spanish or German. Being able to speak more than one language is a great asset and a highly marketable skill, especially in international relations (the field I want to go into). I'll give reasons too..
Japanese: I'm really interested in the culture obviously, and it's the country I'm focusing on for my major. It's really beautiful too :^^:
Korean: There are a lot of Koreans here at Cornell and also it's becoming more and more of a relevant language when it comes to international politics.
Spanish: pretty much becoming the second language of the US
German: German is a cool language :-P

I try to speak Spanish and Japanese. I'm getting a minor in both. Though, over the past couple of years, my Spanish skills have kind of gone down. :( I need to find a nice telenovela to watch to keep up with all the anime.

I grew up with two languages at home.
In school I learned English, but I never learned anything in the classes.
I started to learn and speak the english language after I got married. I'm still learning by the day.

I know four languages.
I would like to learn two more languages.

I am almost fluent in Spanish. I know a little Polish, but I suck at it.

Spanish. I know bits and pieces of Korean, but only what I've picked up while eating Korean food over the years. :P

Eddie, you make an interesting point. Music is a language. As is sign language. Wish I knew either! :D

Through my work with Mercedes Benz , I have learned a bit of German but not enough to feel confortable in conversations.

Most of the other languages , Spanish , Armenian and others I only have learned the most common words :advisory: :dgrin
