Oh. Can I go too?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Majored in college with German, though I took two years of French and a year of Russian (all at the same time - that was fun!).
Living in the Marshall Islands for six years, shamefully, I only picked up enough Marshallese to make up some good (terrible, but useful) words, and be polite.
Hm... mostly a smattering of these anymore. But since I work with a bunch of folks from Cuba and the Dominican Republic, I'll be picking up some Spanish.

English is my first language. I was almost fluent in Spanish. I've slacked on that language lately so I can really only read it and listen to it. I fumble speaking it now.
I wanted to learn Russian but we moved before I got registered for the class. I was living in Alaska at the time so it just seemed like the cool thing to do. I'm currently learning Japanese.

"Speak" is a relative term
I pronounce the Japanese I've learned much more correctly than any of the German or French I studied formally.
But I have a reasonable reading knowledge of both German and French, enough to do my former work as a cataloger. I can also work with Italian, Spanish, Latin, and a couple other languages, but I'm not fluent in ANY of them. It's what we used to call "bibliographic knowledge" of the language, enough to pick out the information necessary for the database and for assigning subject headings

I'll use the line my dad always used when I was taking Spanish in high school...
Yah, I know spanish: taco, burrito, enchilada...

So obviously, NO, I don't speak any other languages. But I looove listening to other people speak different languages. Some are so musical, and some have sounds that come from so far down in the throat that I know I could never speak them.
For me, that is one of the best things about travel: getting to hear a foreign language spoken by the native speakers. I am very impressed and jealous of all you guys who speak many languages.
