Math experts...i need help

Post by hyelakingsfan »

okay so there is this problem which has been bugging me. In the book it says that (RS)^2 = RV * RT and i keep on doing it and getting a different answer then what it says on the back of the book.

So here is the problem
Image

This is what im getting...
( 8 )^2 = 12(12-x) is that right or wrong?
64 = 144 - 12x
12x = 80
x = 6 2/3
so RT = 6 2/3

But the back of the book says its 5 1/3???? I am officially going crazy!!!

Aha. I fail to see the relevance of that allusion.

What you got is TV...... So you have to do:

RT = 12 - x = 12 - 6 2/3 = 5 1/3.....

Tellllllll me about it. lol. Im actually pretty good in math. Its just that i dont go to class too often because the teacher really cant teach. He makes errors every 2 minutes. So i do it all by myself from the book and the book doesnt give every single answer and way how to do it. So it gets difficult at times. :?

Ditto to Kittens' Comment....addition always makes a problem more difficult than it needs to be. :P

I had this problem in college in my probability class. So I continued going to class, drew pictures the entire time, and went to my old statistics prof's office hours for help(he also taught probability, but I had a conflict with his classes time). My prob prof was amazed at my progress, having no idea how I was doing it ^^;

My whole issue now is just how much I've forgotten ^^;;;
