Did You Know.......???

Post by usamamo »

For all those 300 fans out there.

I was sitting down watching foxtel last night and I came across this old movie from like 1982. Guess what it was called..???

Give Up......

It was called "The 300 Spartans"

Weird. Now somewhere inside me I was hoping that this brilliant movie "300" was original. Obviously not. Ah well, I still love it but I am a little sad that it is another rip off.....at least it was better than the original in this case.

So my question is did anyone else know this? Or am I slow?

You should not be that disapointed. That movie was made in 1962 and both are based on an true event , the battle of Thermopylai .

There have been many books and TV shows on this too. What Frank Miller did in the comic book that was translated into the movie 300 was his take on it in his story telling style.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

from my understanding is that thte Movie 300 is based off the Frank Miller graphic novel that was inspired by the 1962 movie.... which is inturn inspired by historical events. So it's Frank Miller's take on the telling of the story.

If you want the original telling of the story, may have to take some research through some history books. ^_^

I loooooooooooooooved 300!!!!

Hotice is right (she must've read my review of 300! :D) Frank Miller has said before that his graphic novel was inspired by that movie, which he watched when he was younger. The 300 Spartans was loosely based on a real historical event, as Joe said. That's why 300 is amusing: it's a movie based on a comic that was based on a film that was based on a real event. :)

There were also many off-shoots and parodies based on the comic well before the movie came out, my favorite being Jack and the Spartans.

You can tell how much of a Miller fan Tartakovsky was since Samurai Jack was also based off of one Miller's first classics - Ronin.

Ooo thank you everyone for the info. I have only breezed over the history of the European nations so I was not familiar with it.

Yea, I knew about "The 300 Spartans" and I knew it was the influence behind Frank Miller's "300"

I tried to watch it and it was just too painful for me. :l
