One of my best friends in high school raised two raccoons. Their mother had gotten killed, leaving them behind as just tiny babies; she found them when they were only days old. She bottle fed them and everything, and had them for years. A male and a female, which she named Bonnie and Clyde. One day, Bonnie just totally snapped, so my friend let her go. Clyde was OK for a while. He didn't seem to get mean, but, one day, he just opened the latch on his cage and left. When she came home from school, he was gone. I don't think she ever saw either of them again.
Kinda sad, but, all the same, it's the way it has to be. Raccoons can be very vicious, and they really do not make good pets. It seems they are happiest in their own environment.
