Cel to be identified! SOLVED!!!!

Post by JuniorMintKiss »

Update: I've scanned the sketch that has some Japanese characters written on it. Can anyone read this:

Image

So I have this cel...

http://juniorscels.rubberslug.com/galle ... mID=132425

I've done searches, combed thru the cels at YJ and can't find anything close to the look of this cel. The sketch doesn't reveal much either. I had a post up a while ago and not much luck that go around, so I'm hoping that someone now will have a clue. Please, even if you have a tiny suggestion or a small tidbit, please let me know. Thanks!

Jessica

Thanks to those that have contacted me with some great suggestions. Here are the shows that I've come up with that kinda match the artwork of this cel...could it be from?

Sorcerer Hunters
Lost Universe
Ryu Knight
Magic Knight Rayearth
Shamanic Princess
Slayers

Thanks and please help me out if you can!

If all else fails and you're still really curious about knowing, I would post about it on a big anime message board.

You might be best off questioning a massive number of diversified anime experts instead of the large number of cel and sketch experts we have here. (If you know what I mean). :)

The AnimeOnDVD Forum General Anime Discussion Section here:
http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showforum.php?fid/21/

or the AnimeSuki General Anime section here:
http://forums.animesuki.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16

...those would be the places where I would ask. There are some real anime experts at both places. You just have to hope that the right person will see your post.

I had a fun time reading this AnimeSuki "Most *rare* anime you've ever seen?" thread from some time back:

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread. ... ht=obscure

...but nothing I've seen compares to some of the stuff they've seen. No way. :emb

Sorcerer Hunters <----- This is what I have always thought the cel came from everytime I see it in your gallery. It fits the Sorcerer's designs, if only I still had the series.

Magic Knight Rayearth<----- 100% sure it's not from this series, it's been several years since I last watched but I really do not recall anyone close to that design.

Shamanic Princess <----- 100% sure it's not from this series, in fact 110%

Sorry JMK, I wish I was of more help /swt

Thanks for the links; I am checking them out. Hopefully someone will come up with something. You are very knowledgeable, keropi!!! And otakusin, thanks for narrowing down the possibilities - I've been looking as much into Sorcerer Hunters as I can, so maybe, just maybe....

I can tell you it can't be from any of the titles mentioned other then Sorcerer Hunters. I have the DVDs. If i find some time this weekend ill look through them for you and let you know if i turn up anything. But honestly I can't remember seeing this character when i watched the series a long time ago. But who knows...

You'd do that for me, EoP? You're awesome! I posted this request on AnimeSuki forum and I got a smart-aleck remark:

"Freeza and Chibi-Usa's love child"

Riiiight.

Never watched Sailor Moon or Dragonball Z.

Oh...is that why you were asking about about that title? Glad to see someone was able to figure it out for you. :)

Are you going to try to view the anime now?

A lot of old adult anime fell into semi-obscurity when the medium switched from tape to DVD. A lot of lesser titles were deemed not popular enough to re-issue onto DVD be it R1, R2 or wherever.

Then again...only so many of those old adult anime are probably worth watching anyway (unless if you find artwork from it of course).

Well, after all the crap I did to find out about it, I just might have to see if I can get a hold of a copy. I don't think my DVD player plays Region 2, so I'll have to find a VHS version.

Would someone like to help me out???

For an older adult anime tape like that that might never have come out into English that's a difficult order. I hope someone has been able to help you out.

The only way I know how to view something like that would be to see if it ever shows up at Anime Jungle under the used laserdiscs, DVDs or in your case tapes that they sell at their Los Angeles or Japanese store(s):

http://jungle-scs.co.jp/en/

Other than the obvious Yahoo Japan checks or contacting people with very obscure anime collections I wouldn't know how to get it. If it did get released into English maybe a tape from it might show up on eBay someday.

Did the person at Anime Nation ever say if it got released into English and/or what the English release title of it was?

Here's a link to the thread I started at AnimeNation in the Hentai section:

http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=204468

There are some suggestions as to the licensing and so on. I need to take a look at those links; I haven't had time to yet. And I went to Rinkya and requested a search for 'Kigurumi Sentai Kiltian' and so far, I can only find those garage kits that you had a link to, Keropi. So I'm still lookin' and I hope that I can find something!!!

I doubt it's mentioned in the list on SoftCel's website. I wonder if those are the only titles that SoftCel picked up. It seems like they picked up more titles than that.

That AnimeMania site reminded me to look up my second edition Anime Guide book, but it didn't seem to be in there either. The book came out in February 1997 however so it could have easily been left out of the listings. Looking through that book is like looking through a time machine. So many of those old titles I had forgotten about. It makes me ponder the question of what anime might still be well remembered ten years from now.

I looked up old titles at Hentai Neko as well, but nothing seemed to compare or relate to it.

:topic

In the Anime Retail Businesses section of the book it lists:

Anime Wink - anime cels
Art Toons - anime cels
House of Anime
Musashi Enterprises- cels
Nichibei Anime Club - specializes in original animation cels and drawings
The Right Stuf - anime cels (remember the random popup cel site? :) )

I'm a Hentai Neko regular as well and I couldn't find a Contact link and let them know about this rather obscure title. That site helped me discover that my blonde-hair girl in my Misc. section is from 'Karakuri Ninja Girl.'

It's going to be real hard to find anymore cels, then. I bought her from Stephen @ AnimeMuseum when he had one of his sales - maybe I'll go pester him. On a side note, I saw that you had 'Koihime' as one of your favorite titles - I love that show as well (but it's the only hentai that I've really seen so far).
