Which image evokes the strongest emotion?

Post by Krafty »

Which single piece of anime art in your collection, or another's, evokes the strongest emotion for you?

I thought of this whilst browsing YJ and saw a cel that almost brought a tear of sadness to my eye.
We all have 'favourites' in some form but they're often pleasing compositions of characters and scenes we admire and I think we usually emphasise sheer [artistic] beauty over emotional connection.
So, what one image makes you genuinely laugh & lifts your spirits, feel sad & depressed, gets you angry & frustrated or feel immense pride & confidence, etc?...

BTW, this is the cel that got me thinking, it's from Infinate Ryvius [1999]

Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

Come on. What does "this" refer to?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

It varies: sometimes a cel or sketch expressing relief, or happiness, or a flash of insight will move me. Sometimes one with intense action or determination will be just what I want to look at. Lately I've been down a lot, and in the middle of what will be a very difficult life-change move for me, which I know is inevitable and which I feel I'm handling in the right way. Still, this season, the deeply sad cels are the ones that resonate. Of the latest round of acquisitions, this one stands out:

Hopefully this time next year it will be one with a smile.

Well for me....

Uplifting would be this from Galaxy Angel http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... mID=116561

And for the powerfull emotion involved with emotional pain I would go with this one from 3X3 eyes http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... mID=104156

Oooo, Sensei! The background you used on that one really complements the water in her eyes! Nicely done! :bny

For me.... well, there are many that tug at my emotions because that's how I choose them to buy. :)

But... and I actually did run through my gallery, hoping to find a winner that was NOT Ichigo... :wink:
This one just steals my soul (for MANY reasons - moment and beauty foremost):

I was awe-stuck by one of my recent purchases.

The idea of utter selfless love struck me with this one the moment I saw it and still does. It reminds me that abiding to your core beliefs isn't impossible.

Cels from this scene always provoke strong emotions from me... if I collected from Trigun, a cel from this sequence would be a must:
