Noooo, no real harm Caroline, I think people just don’t like it because it knocks legitimate updates off of the rubberslug update page (and front page) so for people who rely on this RS feature as well as for the people who are doing the updating... it can get annoying.
But as you can see here, it's not -that- bad a crime and I don't think it's really gonna upset anyone here.

Yes, that's exactly it. However, since I don't usually check every day anyhow, it doesn't really matter/I don't care all that much. I'm sure I've missed hundreds of potentially interesting updates.Ronin wrote:I think people just don’t like it because it knocks legitimate updates off of the rubberslug update page (and front page) so for people who rely on this RS feature as well as for the people who are doing the updating... it can get annoying.
One reason I don't bother to keep my own 'coming soon' section is because I don't want to use seller scans; I want my first uploaded images to be nice 600-700px wide scans. Also, I want to put comments about my impressions from seeing the artworks firsthand. The downside, of course, is that I take so freakin' long to get around to scanning things.

Once again, it doesn't bother me if people have them
or not. I really don't pay much attention to the front
page of RS anymore, cause by the time I get around to
checking updates, I have missed a ton of others anyway.
Works best for me to do a search by the shows I like
and am interested in.
I do, however, update my site with cels I have coming
soon, though, I put them in their prospective sections and
sometimes I hide them and sometimes I don't. Depends
on the mood I am in at that particular time.

If I am realy excited about something, I will put items in my *coming soon* section. It won't show up in the main page because I just recylce the link (After an item arrives I make a new page for it and put it in it's new section. Then I use it's old page to put other new cels that are on their way.
So these updates don't knock off new cels in the main page
I used to just create new pages 3 years ago, but I read the forum and found out that some don't like it...
-To me, it's good either way...

Hmmm coming soon sections. I love viewing them when they are not hidden. I don't mind seeing an update for those hidden ones either. For myself, I find them useful (viewing cels I'm ecstatic about and doing the preliminary work like write-ups) but I kept it hidden in RS. I don't use it on RS anymore because for a period of time I saw quite a bit of discussion about it, which I didn't care for. I think RS is a great place especially to people who don't have their own webspace but I wanted more control over my gallery which included being able to use coming soon sections as frequently (and easily) as I can, so I now use my own hosting most of the time and just use RS to showcase shows I think that are missing from RS or just pieces I absolutely love.

They don't bother me. Most anything that comes down to personal preferences in relation to galleries does not inspire positive or negative reactions in me. I just don't care what other people do with their galleries. I genuinely feel it's their business and none of mine. I also respect the notion that this topic is slightly controversial and Coming Soon sections aggravate some people.
I have a coming soon section but it's sorely outdated and neglected, like most of my gallery is right now. Friends know the password to my private areas (why does that sound SO perverse?!
) so they are welcome to view my "Coming Soon" items. Anyone curious for the password can just ask for it, I don't particularly mind. Private items usually have pictures of lesser quality, which goes against my taste, and that is why I don't make them public in the first place. I like to delude myself into thinking I might someday scan everything that needs to be scanned.
Generally, I like there to be a certain level of quality in regards to items on public display in my gallery.
My Coming Soon section is for the viewing pleasure of myself (especially when away from my own computer), my husband, my friends and my family. I'd rather have all of my production art related items in one place, not scattered throughout my hard drive, photobucket and in emails. Just doesn't seem wise when my gallery can be and should be the one stop spot for my collection.

I'm with glorff and Moop.
I don't have a coming soon. I don't want a coming soon. I don't look at coming soons. It's like one big ignore feature for me. It works for some but not for others. I keep track of what I bought or won in a folder on my computer, not online.
Although, I'm really starting to like those "new arrival" sections as long as the regular sections are updated too. Otherwise, I skip them too. If I don't know what I'm going to see, I don't go. Sorry, I just don't have the internet time.

Me, I am not a fan of the coming soon section. I like to wait until I have them in my hands, and I think it adds to the suspense. And besides, I would much rather see a good quality scan of my new cels than look at the dealer ones. I do have a folder on my computer where I keep track of my cels to come, but I wouldn't load them into my gallery. It's a personal choice.

I don't mean to pry.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
