Are your gallery hits decreasing?

The impression I'm getting from what I've heard is that collectors for the most part are not browsing each other's galleries as much as they used to (essentially this year)?

Is this because:

1. People's interest in the hobby has gone down because there's less interesting items popping up these days?

2. Collectors are updating less frequently because there are less items to buy. So this means there's less reason to look?

3. A number of collectors are busy with other activities or hobbies this year compared to last year?

4. The ratio of newer collectors to "older" collectors has been decreasing over the years as the artwork supply lessens. This means that you probably don't even have to click a collectors cel gallery link because you already know about what they collect after clicking their link so many times. Then again even if you clicked it, the ratio of stuff you haven't seen before decreases the longer the collector has been collecting.

With #1, #2, #3 and #4 happening, you might only need to visit their gallery every few months and you're satisfied?

I honestly never kept a hits counter. n.n; so I have no idea if my gallery gets more or less hits anymore. XD (I would say much less, lol. since I only update once every four years or something)

Mine's running just a little low, but not by much if you take into account I haven't been doing the holiday themed gimmicks this year. :

But yeah, there hasn't been much to tempt me this year. (which is a bloody good thing since I'm into other stuff more now)
And I did do that big honking purchase from Midori's and that is still only about half scanned and uploaded so far. :

But I do find that people still drop by.

I disagree; 9 years of collecting and I’m still finding great looking stuff. Many cels aren’t from the series I started with, but lately I’m seeing cels from series I could never find when I started.

I’m searching, comparing prices, and finding cels more often, so my gallery is not up-to-date. Plus, I’m starting to feel bad if I don’t write something about a show, especially if I’m one of only a very few collectors who has production art from it. A lot of times I want to double check things before I update, but I never get around to re-watching the videos. I’m really too lazy, and I should just start updating a lot of stuff, but unfortunately I’m losing to my own nature.

Sometimes I am; sometimes I’m not; I don’t know…maybe.

From what I can tell, production art from currently popular, well advertised, shows doesn’t seem to be as available as it used to be. But it might just be that, when I started collecting, newly released shows in the US were often 5-10 years old in Japan, so I had a greater number of titles to choose from that matched my tastes and were “known Anime”. Instead of just looking for contemporary shows, or shows made in the last 1 or 2 years, back then I had a decade or more of Anime titles I was thinking about.

A lot of the Anime I watched, and collect cels from, has become obscure, hard to find; and some of it is out of print, or the dreaded long out of print. So it’d be unlikely new Anime fans would suddenly decide, they really want to collect from some hard to find series, movie, or OVA they’ve never seen.
I also think the preliminary drawings don’t have the same impact as the cels. And it’s hard for new collectors to buy Rilezu, because they’re more expensive than an average cel, and there isn’t as large a variety of shows to choose from.

In regards to checking updates:
I think it depends on how you view an update. Is an update, a set number of cels you should view because they’re new, or are they an addition that adds to the quality and experience of viewing the overall collection?

No, not really.
Individual cels get fewer hits, but my gallery hits change from month to month, with no real pattern that I can tell, and it hasn’t gone down overall.

Mine seems to be plugging along steadily at about 5000 hits every 6 months. But my top 5 hitters are oddities that I think might be hot linked to other sites, so that might be misleading. As I've not updated in 2 months, I think that factors other than new items drive visits to some galleries. I try to make my comments sources of information on the series, especially if it's not well known, and also on the practices of studios in using layouts, gengas, etc. in generating images.

I would say fairly constant, although there's a noticeable spike when I update. I complain abt the lack of quality cels but I still do see cels/ sketches I wana buy often enough

I would say its been basically the same. Of course there are more "hits" on your site when you advertise it on beta. I guess it depends how frequently you not only update but advertise that you did indeed update on Beta and other sites. I haven't kept track of how many hits I get per month but if you want an estimate you could divide the months since you signed up with RS (if if you have a rubberslug account) by the number of hits you receive. For example I currently have 9302 and my gallery was actually made 9/6/06 (tomorrow is the one year of my RS site!). So a quick math of 9302 / 12 = 775 hits a month roughly. Of course lot of that is due to me updating and always posting on beta. I would be interested to know the amount of people who have actually visited my site either through randomly click on my link in my profile, browsing the net, or doing a series search on RS. I think this would be pretty cool to know... As far as hit increase / decrease we will find this out this time next year. If next year I have around 18000 hits then we can say it was the same for this year.. Time will tell... Stay tuned till next year!

I don't have a counter, so I don't know or care. The gallery's mostly there to help me keep track of what I have and share with friends.

I have mine posted on my ME page on ebay so I tend to get more hits when i have auctions listed. I also have my gallery featured on a Yuu Watase website as well so I have been getting more hits than usual because of that @_@

I tend to get more hits now than before. I know that many rubberslug galleries are on google and other search engines. I did see my gallery on google when I checked. So, I think that is one major part of why the numbers increase.

the other is that I just regularly update my gallery and keep up with the updating. If I let it slip, then it will just be way too difficult to scan 100+ sketches/cels at one time and update it.

hm... i've never really kept count either so i can't really say

way back when, i started the site more as a reference tool: an easier and quicker way to remind myself what i have than digging through the folders and while it eventually evolved into a way to share my cels with others, i never really thought about tracking or anything

i'm pretty sure i can say my hits are much higher this month than it's been for the last few years since i've actually updated but that's pretty much the extent to my contribution

my gallery hits go up when i update, but i never really paid much attention. last year the numbers sort of peaked. i probably visit my gallery more than anyone haha, so it isnt very accurate.

i added more cels to my collection last year, than any of my previous years of collecting. so i dont think its been harder to find items. i have been suuuuuuper busy with work, since in previous years i was still in school and had much more free time to myself. i dont visit other galleries as much as i used to.
