What is your definition of a "wishlist" cel/genga?

I like to think of whish list item as one that you fixate on finding above all others. Up until recently, I thought I had filled my only wishlist cel, but pondering on this thread I realize now there is one AIC hanken I've spent a lot of time the last few years trying to find and would be willing to spend a good bit to own.

My first wishlist took 6 years to find, this one I might never find, but I'm going to enjoy the hunt never the less : )

My one and only wishlist cel/genga is a death scene from Rahxephon. Now although I have gengas of this character already, as well a genga from that episode, and other character's death scenes, this one has eluded me. There is another one from Berserk of Gats/Guts holding Caska (Berserk fans know which one I'm talking about) but I consider that more of a "holy grail" than a wishlist. I'm not sure that if that cel still exists or if it is floating out there in the real world that I could ever be able to afford it, much less justify spending that amount of money for a single cel (although if I could I'm sure I would buy it anyway).

I agree with that. Plus, when I watch an anime, there'll be that moment where I say, "I want that cel!" That's a wishlist.

I don't have a definition for "wishlist" because I don't have a wishlist.

For quite some time I've been searching for stuff by the anime title only. If I get something I like from a certain genre range of anime I like then I'm satisfied. I would love to obtain specific scenes, but I never expect to run across them.

I just don't have the patience to hope for YEARS that I might see something from that special scene I wanted and never do. At some point I prefer to move on to other things (or anime) and not grow frustrated.

So I never expect to win auctions and I never expect to stumble across genuine wishlist items. Ain't happening. Nope. Out of my head.

I use the word "wishlist" rather broadly. To me it means something that I'm actively looking for, whether it's a scene, or a character. I consider those of the highest priority to be dream items (because I might only see them in my dreams ). So while I consider many items in my collection to be wishlist items, I think I own only one item I would consider a "dream" cel.

Good question, I too agree that there are different stages of wishlist cels. And using crackpots term above, I would only consider one of my cels to be a dream cel...an ultimate wishlist cel…a cel which I have seen on screen and thought one day I must own that cel.

Other cels which I consider to be perfect or that I have thought and pondered about after seeing images/cels of them I would consider just normal wishlist cels. Theres a fine line between dream and wishlist cel, not that it really matters…just as long as you’re happy is really all that counts.
But like I said only one of my cels I would consider a dream cel, which is this one. When I first saw the movie, I knew and only dreamt of ever owning this cel...which again sort of defines the whole 'dream cel' idea.

For me, a wishlist is wanting a certain character or scene - or simply something from a series that's rare to find something from. It doesn't have to be rare, but it usually is for me

For instance, any scene with Ash and Misty (from Pokemon) together without Brock or whomever, would be a wishlist. Not only because Pokemon cels, especially of this kind, are rare, but because their friendship means something to me with this show. It has to garner some kind of emotional reaction from me. If I found one of them together, but it was just their legs or something, then I would probably pass it up, even if it's what I'd want, because I don't have a reaction.

i guess wishlist for me would be a cel from a scene/specific shot that i saw and thought 'omg! i have to have that' - though i do tend to blur the boundaries between 'wishlist' and 'vaguely looking for'

i don't have many real wishlists, just because that 'omg' moment doesn't happen too often... but.. now that i think about it, i don't think i've actually found one yet

meh.. that's what i get for having wishlists that are either 1) from a show without a lot of cels out there or 2) from a scene everybody wants

that's ok. impulse buys are fun if bad for my wallet

Yeah, "wish" and "dream" are two different tiers for me as well.

"Wishlist" is the list I have on rs of things I wish I could find and buy.
One exception is a Golden Boy cel I would really like, but just can't pay the $200 price tag for it yet.
These are the cels I will drop all the window shopping ones for, and head straight after, if I find them. I'll count up all my pennies and really bid hard for them too. Some days I can pony up more than others, but that's part of the wish too. "Wish I'd had enough to win that one."

The dream ones are the ones that I don't dare dream of finding and getting. And I don't bother to place those in the wishlist.
I've actually managed to stumble onto a few of those.

I think over the long haul, I've gotten as many wishes as dreams.
I count myself rather lucky in that respect.

I suppose, thinking about it, that I also distinguish between a simple wishlist and a dream cel. For me, a wishlist is something I would love to have, either to fill in holes in my collection or because I just love everything about that character and desire good cels of them. Wishlist cels usually have a certain amount of trickiness to finding them, or they probably wouldn't be on the wishlist because I would have my fill!

A dream cel is a specific shot of a specific character in a specific scene, although it can just be any shot of the character in that scene if I'm really fanatical. These will usually have a special significance for me, either because I love the outfit, I love the emotion of the scene, or it's an especially lovely shot. OP and ED cels of my favourite characters often fall into this category. On that reckoning, I probably have three such cels, possibly four depending on how I look at it. That being said, I will likely often refer to 'dream' cels as 'wishlist' cels, but I am unlikely to refer to just 'wishlist' cels as 'dream' cels, if you know what I mean.

Easy....a cel of a character that I must have. Either from a particular scene or just a certain look. Except in the case of the really expensive cel that I know I will be lucky to get. Those I am a little less picky about, I would like a perfect bank cel of Neptune close up but I would settle for a really nice shot of her a little further away.

As a collector of many things (cels being just one of them), I am very picky, but there are items that go beyond normal "pickyness" levels. Those items are wishlist material. They represent specific frames, which are either superbly drawn or are from a scene I enjoyed particularly. "Dream cels" as I've seen some refer to them.
I have yet to buy an exact wishlist cel. I found one once, but it had been sold to someone else already. Hopefully, I'll be lucky enough to find more soon enough

I guess that's how I feel too; spot a shot in the anime that catches my eye and I aim to acquire it. WHAT catches my eye determines its 'wishlist' status and I look for a shot that not only has apealing colouring and composition but an image that sums up the meaning of an entire scene and/or character's persona.

This setup is the only one I'd class as an ultimate wishlist and I'll briefly explain the reasons why.

To begin with it's visually superior to most cels: brilliant contrasts in colour and the foreshortening focus on the staff reminds us that this is an important object. The curved background (fish-eye lens) and black sky makes the moment appear surreal as attention is on the characters and action. That conveys that this is a key scene, a moment to pay attention to.
Persona: the villain is crouched (his typical stance during the episode) with his water power surrounding him at his feet- never seen before in one frame. Combining such traits/representations in one shot is awesome. The hero precides tall above him, this pose indicating that he's superior and has an advantage.
This is an image that tells a story.

As well as the beauty of the art itself, it's all the layers of meaning and inferred meaning (with a knowledge of the scenario) that forms a Wishlist item.
