GENEON ceasing DVD sale and distribution???

Post by darksuzaku »

Take a look at:

http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=1156

Now i'm really worried for all their releases that i collect.....
- Last volume of "Fate Stay Night".
- Last volumes of the "When they Cry". What about the 2nd season???
- Almost the entire "Tale of Saiunkoku" series, and of course the worry for the 2nd season.

Someone please tell me that i'll be able to get them

Geneon has made an agreement to distribute their dvds through ADV's distribution network.

From the RAC Blog
"Speaking of Geneon, the transfer of sales management to ADV continues and since all of the inside sales personnel at Geneon have already been let go there will be a sort of 'black hole' for a couple of weeks until ADV assumes full control of those functions starting Oct 1st. I was a little surprised that Geneon decided not to keep their marketing folks on for 3 more weeks until the handover was complete, but many of the things Geneon has done over the last couple of years have been a mystery to me. It was announced this week that Mitsubishi has completely divested itself of it's (large) 34% stake in Geneon leaving Dentsu as the sole Japanese owner, so perhaps I'm not the only one bewildered by how they ran their business. Now that's just water under the bridge. :-) "

what a relief that it didnt have a delayed release
or else we wouldve been screwed on that one /wah

shit that really sucks Luis :O :l
looks like it might be a lil while before the rest
of your series' dvds get released... :(
and watching company gobble up others (so to speak), transition
periods are *never* as smooth as they say they are to the press!
:hurt: X|
dont care who it is, they always f**k up.
whether products get delayed a few months or they release
something earlier and retract it just t o re-release it again later
or drop somehing suddenly they started on.
 :x

The RAC blog was dated 9/17 so it looks like since then that deal fell apart.

I expect there will be major delays till either Geneon reinstitutes their inhouse distribution network or arranges a new partner here in the USA.

It does suck :moon

"In addition to the contracting of Geneon USA's sales and marketing to ADV Films, Dentsu Inc. (Geneon USA's parent company) was also planning on closing Geneon USA's in-house production by the end of the year. It is not known what was to be done with ongoing projects, such as the Hellsing video series, that will not finish in Japan before December 31." - animenewsnetwork

Ahhh....Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!

I'm also going to pick up the last E.P. dvd this afternoon as well (the only series I've not waited to buy as a box set, and am now very glad I didn't).

At least Geneon released their product in a relatively timely fashion while they could. Sony is killing me with their painfully slow release of the Blood+ domestic. :x

A dealer friend of mine just e-mailed me a few days ago saying to buy up the dvds while he has them and he was going to give me a discount... would't reveal to us why yet though. Interesting...

Wow, that's something. I really would like to know -why- a huge company like that just suddenly fell apart. (Or maybe it's not as "sudden" as I'm thinking) But for ADV to also not able to make arrangements to take over... something fishy might have happened within Geneon...

8-24-07 (before the deal fell through)
"....according to a notice sent to retailers, ADV Films will be handling the marketing, sales, and distribution for Geneon's entire catalog beginning October 1.
The notice mentioned that Geneon will still be licensing and producing anime for North America, but the way those titles reach the market will now be
handled by ADV Films." - animenewsnetwork

My guess is that ADV wasn't happy with the last part of this arrangement. (hint...$$$)

Whatever the case, there are sure going to be a lot of titles left in limbo until this is all sorted out.

AnimeOnDVD is having a poll as to which anime people want Funimation to pick up from Geneon's old title list:

http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showtop ... tid/28717/

From that list I'd say I'd most want them to pick up When They Cry and Black Lagoon, but there are other anime on the list that I like too.

For me it has to be "When They Cry" and "Tale of Saiunkoku". But i would like to know what's going to happen with the second series for both of those and for "Shakugan no Shana" as well.
