Spolier XD
Nope....
I just had the "Where in the world did that come from" idea....
Now if he said that Snape was gay...then I would have believed that...

So someone should also ask her if Snape is gay....

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

...

Wait... what? What kind of answer was that?? I don't know zilch about Harry Potter, except that it involves someone named Harry Potter, but this seems like a really weird response to the question. I don't see how him being gay is relevant to whether or not he finds true love... unless she's implying that real love can only happen between a man and a woman and therefore, no, he doesn't.

8O I never thought of that.....you are right...It's a weird answer :o

It was a yes or no answer and the answer given did not really answer it...so I guess her answer was no...

I had the same reaction when I first heard the story. To be fair, that's just a media mischaracterization. The actual question in full was:

"Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?"

And her answer in full was:

"My truthful answer to you...I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent, but he met someone as brilliant as he was and, rather like Bellatrix, he was very drawn to this brilliant person and horribly, terribly let down by him."

A very good answer.

Actually, you are misquoting. The fan asked if Dumbledore had ever been in love (to ask if he ever finds true love is stupid, since he is dead). She responded, "My truthful answer to you—I always thought of Dumbledore as gay, actually." After about seven minutes of applause, she stated "had I known it would make you this happy I would have told you earlier." She then went on to explain Dumbledore's earlier infatuation with Gridlewald.

"I know that it was a positive thing that I said it, for at least one person, because one man 'came out' at Carnegie Hall," Rowling told a news conference Tuesday at the International Festival of Authors, according to the Canadian Press. "I'm not kidding."

In fact, Rowling said she knew Dumbledore was gay even before the first book was published, something that, she says, fueled his relationships with several characters throughout the series. The reason she held on to the information for so long, she says, is because his rather tragic infatuation with Grindewald was a key element in ending the book, and “why would I put the key part of my ending of my story in book one"?

A very good answer. OK I will adopt a more serious tone.

When I heard, my first reaction was that it explained why it took so long for him to deal with the Gridlewald situation. No more and no less.

Why does everyone have to second guess and give bad motivations to someone? How many times have you found out, many years later, that someone that you had limited, but regular, contact with was gay? Often it happens after they are dead or gone. No big suprises here. It is not as if gay people have it tatooed on their foreheads.

A Lot of them don't even know and Dumbledore may have been one of these. One great love and a lifetime of never finding someone else that could measure up. Does it make him gay if he only had the feelings, but never acted on them? It is, however a perfect fit for Dumbledore and I for one am glad that this perfectly natural response fell our of her mouth. 8)

Hmm, I don't see anywhere on the linked page that gives her more detailed answer, I was merely going by what was provided on the page. So really, I didn't misquote.. it was the page, hehe. Score for me! :D

Now that I know more of it, her answer makes more sense. Reading the info on that page that asks if he finds true love, and to give an answer that he's gay, seemed like a very strange response. :?

Funny, took me all of one minute to research and find the rest of the quote. Score for me.
