Anyone collect non-cel/sketch anime stuff?

Post by Cenbe »

I'm curious how many cel collectors succumb to the occasional figurine/art book/doujinshi/phone card etc. whim. I find this stuff mildly interesting as I've come across it while looking for art, but I recently saw this - http://members.cox.net/atimbral/rakka.jpg - and I'm sorely tempted for the first time.

I do already have a Yurie keychain (which was a big step for me :)), but I can justify that because it's inexpensive and practical. I'm afraid if I buy this, it's the first step on a very slippery slope, and I sort of hate to dilute my cel/sketch budget!

:emb Actually.....collecting anime stuff like playing cards, figures and plushies got me into collecting cels.....

Then it became a slipper slope since Cel collecting takes over the budjet of collecting anything else...
I also bought some cute doujinshi (clean ones)

I have a small collection of figures and plushies. But its nothing facy/super expensive/rare. I think my 'rarest' piece is probably a jin-roh kubrick. :P

Ooooh yes I have a huge collection of non-cel anime/manga stuff. I have tons on original manga, in some cases I have 2 sets. And I collect artbooks, Sailor Moon mainly. And of those I have 2 as well :) Obsessive Compulsive Collecting Behaviour. OCCB! I have some plushies too. I havent ventured into trading cards and phone cards yet.

Hehh....
Laserdisks, VHS, DVD, Anime OSTS, Jpop and other asian music cds, plushies, figures, models, artbooks, clean doujinshi -SMStars Centric mostly, dolls, cards (selling some), pencil boards (selling some), rpg toys....
I started out as a Sailor Moon collector... which is why I got my first two cels in the first place. ^_^

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... I figure this gives me 2 thousand ^_~

I have a few figures ;)
Have several hundred DVDs and a handful of VHS (stuff not released on DVD). Also have quite a bit of manga.

Aside from that, I have a few things here and there: CDs, plushies, artbooks, pencil boards, etc, but nothing too major.

Other Collections... yeah :emb

Still Actively Collecting:

-Doujinshi (Gundam Wing 1xR)
-Soundtracks/J-Pop
-Tenshi ni Narumon

Has Slowed/Rotates:

-Anime DVD's
-Artbooks
-Figures
-Shitajiki
-Manga
-Video Games

Completely Stopped:

-Comics
-Film/Character Artbooks
-Miscellaneous Furoku
-Original Manga
-Playing Cards
-Sketches
-Trading Cards
-Wine

That list sorta makes me depressed but then not so, if that makes any sense. It shows me see I am finally able to let some things go, slowly but surely, lol. I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in a bad way, so letting go is harder than it sounds. But yeah anywho, there's my other collections.

Go for it, Cenbe. That figurine from Haibane you linked to looks well made plus the crouched position reflects her character which makes it extra appealing.

Yep, I collect a lot of stuff, it's just my thing and I'm not ashamed of it :P
I don't go overboard by collecting superfluous merchandise from every series I've seen, just a selection of anime that caught my imagination.

AKIRA is my biggie and I've got a great deal of merchandise associated with that movie from the various VHS & DVD versions that came out in the UK/Japan/USA, Tshirts & caps, manga, doujinshi, CDs, toys, press releases and even a bookmark... I like to think I have one of the most concice collections of Akira stuff in Europe.
Aside from that I love receiving the fan-made media based on Akira, the cosplay photos, music videos, motorcycle/film/game projects etc because it really perks my interest to witness how it's inspired others.

From other series I have a number of gashapon [miniature egg toys], pencil boards, trading cards, phone cards, posters, artbooks etc. It's all good. Don't shy away from it.
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

I don't make much money so everything has to go toward production artwork. :)

But before I collected production artwork I used to collect older movie star signed photos, comic books, basketball cards, a few baseball cards and U.S. coins and stamps.

Pictures of some of my non-cel/sketch collectibles:

Anime scripts, two autographed cards and a Confederate paper bill:

Mostly Older Movie Star Autographed Signed Photos (I prefer Black&White photos because they tend to age much slower than color photos. They also discolor much less):

"Claude" was just the photo being personalized to someone.

In the early-Nineties I had such a difficult time tracking down a Harrison Ford Black and White Blade Runner Signed Photo. I didn't have the internet back then so I could only rely on printed catalogs that came through the mail. Often the item you wanted to order over the phone was already sold because someone had received their catalog in the mail a couple hours before you did. Harrison Ford didn't sign many photos and many of the ones he DID sign were for Star Wars.

I'm glad sellers don't sell animation cels through printed catalogs (with few photos in them) anymore. That was a drag. Imagine buying cels and signed photos with only WORD descriptions to go by. 8O

Uh...not a very reliable method of getting what you want. You never knew exactly what you were getting until your package arrived. Argh!! :puzzled A dealer could say "it looks nice", but maybe you don't agree with them and think the image is mediocre.

Yeah, I got into statue figure buying recently. Got most of the nice To Heart and Comic Party 1/8th size statues. Bunch of random gapshons from a lot of series a well. My collection of anime dvds and manga is massive. The anime and manga is still my focus, rest is the offshoots.
