Time flys , the holidays are allmost upon us

Post by JWR »

Indulge me a minute or two for today I pulled out a few older albums from my collection (you know vinyl discs , must be played on a record player at 33 1/3 revolutions per minute :dsmoke ) listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and though over the fact that another year is almost past in a blink of an eye.

One song "Time" really sums it up. If you don't know it since it was written in 1973 here's a link from a concert in 1994. Pay attention to the lyrics for they realy hit home as time passes on in your lives.

"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

Gotta love Floyd. Favorite lyric from that song...

"Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way"

I just love Thoreau.

There are some great songs about time. Some of my faves are...

Time of Your Life/Good Riddence by Green Day - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo_d1LWADAE

Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BpJm9gKKI8

Yesterdays by GNR - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5QHBZrDLvc

and of course, Golden Years by Bowie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyrJANFJKec (Love this scene from A Knight's Tale LOL)

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Just be thankful that the old record wasn't a 16 2/3 or even worse a 78

I hated those 78 RPM records. They cracked far too easily. X|

Holy crap...just picking up a 78 RPM record the wrong way and it would crack. I've never seen anything so fragile. I told my dad - "I don't know how you guys put up with these things." :)

That Pink Floyd song is great. Thanks for the link. I haven't heard the song for couple of years. I wish I could have been there in the crowd to see them.

LOL You gave me the will to also dig in my old vinyl discs...

Unfortunately all the Pink Floyd songs I have are on tapes (want to listen to "Shine on your crazy diamond"!), I won't bother you with songs about time passing in French (though we have beautiful titles with sad and deep lyrics), so now I 'm listening to hits of my teen-age...

"Hold me now" by Johnny Logan
"I've been thinking about you" -London Beat
"Wind of change" - Scorpions
...

A time without techno or R'nB... These were the good old days! :l

Oh! "Hotel California" by the Eagles!

Ok, I return to my vinyl player!!! :P
