Also...as far as I know the time showing for when a Beta Member last logged in only (?usually) shows only the SECOND to the last time they logged in.

I used to wonder how someone could log in here and post something after being gone for so long and yet their last logged in date still said they were last logged in several months ago. :sweatdrop

Yes yes -- that would indeed be true :)

Though if people were sneaky enough, they could just vote once, connect through a proxy server, and then cast a second set of votes. Chances of that are pretty unlikely, but yeah, it could be done.

Point is: you have to jump through a lot of hoops to stop those who really really want to cheat the system. I'd hope that most everyone here is honest enough not to warrant it.

You don't need to log in to view the threads. Lurkers who are beta members can vote in this as well.

Oh I see!!! No one cares about winning! :vict

Because people who didn't enter actually cared about winning! And cared that their votes counted.

I understand now! Let's just have fun and not care about winning!!! :vict

Listen to zerospace, because she is very wise.

If anyone were savvy enough to r-e-a-l-l-y want to either rig or completely crash the vote-count, I'd be willing to wager that no amount of predetermined Diebold-type security is going to stop them. In fact, it would rather be a call to step up to the challenge - at least it would for me. Image

That's why, in this case, I believe "less is more".

zerospace is absolutely right. No amount of security will stop someone determined enough to cheat the system. But, as I mentioned before, the vast majority of people participating are being honest and enjoying the event.

So, please, let's try to remember what the point of this event is: to have fun! Let's try to get this thread back in good spirits and stop giving the organizers so much grief. We're only human and we're doing our absolute best here. Can't really do anymore than that.

I just can't believe someone already tried to cheat. :( I think that's why the extra security measures were brought up. If everyone in this world were honest and hardworking, now we wouldn't have to worry about this, let alone anything, right? :D
