300 the movie

Post by almathea »

Argh!

I've just watched "300" for the second time (once at the theatre and now that it has been released here in DVD) and... My God! What a movie! I'm just out of reality with this...

For those who never heard of it, it's the epic tale of the historical and famous battle of Thermopyles, where 300 well trained Spartans held the gigantic army of Xerxes the Persian for days.
Of course the movie comes from a comic book from Franck Miller, so history is a little bit left behind, but it'a a magnificent warrior tale about bravery, honnor, respect and liberty. Well, everything I hardly find in modern Europe...

Did you read the comic book?
Did you see the movie?
Didi you like it or hate it?

Please tell me your thoughts about it!!!

"Remember us. Remember why we died."

Many of us did see it, and liked it very much. Here's an older thread on it...

Thanks Blueheaven! :)

I read everything and liked it a lot!

I just don't agree with those who say that the parts with the queen are unecessary... On the contrary I think they are essential, as they show that, no matter how well trained they are against hurt and feelings, they were still humans.

And well... This gave the opportunity to girls to watch Gerard buttler's butts :D And it's such a pleasant show, we didn't see nor in "Dracula 2000", nor "Lost in time" or "Reign of fire" :P

Do you think your plan will succeed?

I loved the queen!!!!

Behind every great man there is a greater woman!

I'm pretty sure the Queen could beat up the king any time. /ok

:D Ha ha

The Queen certainly beat up the evil coward indeed :D

I've watched it again recently to show it to a friend and... Well I'm still in love with this movie.

Stelios: "it's an honour to die by your sides"
Leonidas: "It's an honour to have lived by yours"
...

The dialogues are great!

I saw it in theaters....
If only the king had not done that to the messenger....Though the movie was good, I at times found the King was too full of himself...and then we know how it ended 8O

Well Moonrabitt, I think he was right. He knew that if kneeled before Xerxes his people and him will be like slaves, and with their talent for war, Xerxes would have used them as warriors untill every drop of Spartan blood was spilled.

In a way, he sacrificied himself and 300 of his men to save the future of their nation and their race. And finally Xerxes was defeated at Platea...
So I don't think he's such a fool in these times of violence.

Let's say alos that I admire a warrior who fights to protect his land when I despise the warrior who sells his "talent" to others... But there we enter in huge subject LOL

Oh! And by the way, death on a battlefield was the goal of every spartan warrior. Because it was the proof they have battled and would be remembered.
And so much centuries later, Leonidas is still known! In belgium, our best chocolates brand is called "Leonidas"...
So he achieved his goal ;)

I didn't really know much about the comics before watching the movie, but I gotta say I loved it! Actually bought it when it was released on DVD, but haven't got round to watching it again!! I need to get round to doing that!
