Interesting Quote
I was reading a blog today in which the person who had been a college Law professor was dicussing how people react to "hot button" issues such as politics , religion ect. .
He was talking about one of the main points he attempted to drill into his students ,
"You are not in command of an issue until you can see the other side in it's most favorable light , not as a caricature , which is how biased people typically see the other side."
How many of us tune out what another says reguardless of it's merit just cause it differs from our view? I wonder how many disagreements could be shortcircuted if we took a little time to understand where another is coming from instead of dismissing their ideas out of hand and instead discuss those differences reasonable. Not to say either yours or their minds will be changed , sometime you can respectfully agree to disagree.
Something to keep in mind when setting New Years Resolutions.

"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

I agree!
I enjoy trying to become the other person and see the world through their eyes!
It really does make a difference!

I agree with the quote.
How can you fully say what you think is the best without hearing other sides to it? That makes what you say ignorant in one way or another. You are being bias and thats it. What you think is right no matter what other input can be added.
Its is not something people think of. I tend to always look on the other side and try to understand where they are coming from before making any type of comment or judgement because I owe them that much before I do.
Nice one Joe

The one reason I don't like the ignore function. Using ignore tells me that you are not open to hearing what people have to say. I had my students work on debate last week. I explained to them that it is important to see both sides of an issue because it not only helps you anticipate what someone might say, but it also leaves you open to learning. The reason some people shut down during a discussion is because they are afraid on some level that they will hear something that will change their mind.

And you have a double standard. When something spreads hate, then it's ok to ignore it.
Do not encourage EoP to continue... You're leading him down the wrong path.blueheaven wrote:!@(#$*@#$(@#) @$@#$@# @$#@$@%$ F#$REWW
Might not be very mature, but it is allowed. However, you do have every right to voice your disdain, just like EOP has the right to voice his frustration. Simple sollution: If you do not agree with it, ask the mods to remove this feature from your access so you are not subjected to it. I mean, we have an emoticon that says "Fucktard" and no one said a thing about it!

Actually, your post proves that I do not have a double standard when it comes to free speech. I think folks have the right to say what they like, and people have the right to retort. However, I do think people need to consider what they say before posting(myself included). So, while I think EOP's posts might be immature at times, he has the right to say it. And when people have an issue with it, they have the right to express that. Posting something I said out of context does not help.

I can see you.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

It's a good point and a good rule to follow. I wish I had the mind set to, but I find myself putting myself in the other person's shoes only after having blasted them, then I think back and analyze
Of course I'm mostly just guilty of arguing for the sake of argument, I do love to play devil's advocate

Devil's advocate is a real necessity to good intelligent conversation.crackpot27 wrote:It's a good point and a good rule to follow.
