What japanese food do you dislike?

Post by Not Sir Phobos »

Yet another thread spawned by the Japanese food thread.

What food items have you found you don't like?

For me: raw squid, tonkatsu, green tea ice cream

I'd have to concur with the Green Tea ice cream as well. I also dislike tempura. Anything fried does not whet my appetite.

woof, woof lol. I like Steak (filet mignon, Porterhouse, ribeye & etc.). I think I would die if all I ate were vegetables. Do you eat eggs or drink milk? Our old neighbors had a daughter who wanted to be a vegan. Her mother had quite a fit learning how to make her food. She couldn't even eat snickers bars because there was something in it.

I don't like Tsukemono, Chawanmushi or Somen made of wheat flour.

I don't really like natto, chirimenjako and other tiny fish (basically, anything with heads still attached), natto, tako, ika, kai (pretty much any mollusk), natto, most tsukemono unless it's very weak flavor and barely pickled (I once had some awesome daikon and cucumber that were homemade), most any type of roe (tarako, mentaiko, etc), and did I mention, NATTO? ;)

I don't like sashimi that is served while the creature is still moving on the plate. I don't care for those millions of tiny semi-translucent fish with the little dark eyes that stare. The smell of dried ika reminds me of death....and mentai (cod roe) is just plain nasty. Shoyu grasshoppers - ugh.

A big no there. I don't know. Fried food never hit the spot for me as an adult. I might go for a good dish of calimari, but that's it.

Green tea chocolates.....i like the ice cream but putting it in chocolate is going too far. Not a big fan of udon or those fish cakes with pink swirls found on top of ramen.

Well, it's not really food but I can't stand sake. Warm alcohol . . . ICK! Guess it's an acquired taste.

I agree completely. The ice cream is ok, but I don't think I would eat a whole bowl of it. The chocolates aren't very good at all though. The ones I ate had some green tea filling surrounded by dark chocolate with cocoa powder on the outside. Not a good combo in my opinion.

I don't like Japanese cheesecake. It's fluffy and doesn't taste like "normal" cheesecake.

I don't like seaweed. I don't like sushi.

I'll eat pretty much anything as long as it is cooked, and doesn't contain spice my stomach is intolerant to. I do admit that oysters/clams don't sound very tasty... but I'd probably give them a shot.
