For me it goes like this:

1. I watch anime to know what artwork I should collect.

2. I watch anime to have as many options as possible as to what I could collect.

3. I figure out where artwork comes from so I know what anime I should watch.

Anime Viewing and Artwork Collecting have a symbiotic relationship.
