Bobby Fischer, R.I.P

Post by EternityOfPain »

The world lost an amazing Chess Player yesterday. Say what you will about his anti-sematic views but he was a true genius on the chessboard. Ever since i started playing chess he was the player i looked up to. I have played hundreds of his games, over and over trying to master his mind set. A true genius.

Here is one artile on him:

I thought a lot of his chess abilities. Obviously a very gifted thinker. I was a bit sad hearing his comment about the World Trade Center tragedy. Seems as though he had some serious issues in that regard. Just goes to show that we're all human no matter how gifted.

He praised the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, saying America should be "wiped out," and described Jews as "thieving, lying bastards."
"The United States is evil. There's this axis of evil. What about the allies of evil the United States, England, Japan, Australia? These are the evildoers," Fischer said.
He sounds like a complete dick head to me.

Good riddance. :yay

Yeah, too bad his political views weren't as complex as his chess.
And while obviously impressed with the Fischerandom variant, I'm much more of a fan of Atomic chess.
It seems to be a more pure (ie. chaotic) representation of real world application with end-game results (in 2-D, of course :^^:).

So R.I.P. Bobby Fischer - ya bigoted, hateful bastard.

The problem is when you know nothing of the person and try and judge them. Read on the history of him to learn why he hates America so much. If you were hunted down as a criminal for simply wanting to play chess your true passion i am sure you'd go crazy. Explaining it to someone who knows nothing of him would be pointless. Not to mention for over-joicing over someone’s death is simply distasteful.

Hiya ZombieBunny,

Bobby's hate goes back to when he wanted to go play the best in the world but do to the cold war he was forbidden to go overseas to do it.he never understood why we could go over there for Olympics but not to play the best chess players in the world for the champships,he was so upset that he could not go that it turned him into something I think he never wanted to be.
The man was the best ever at chess.he beat every computer they could make to beat him,His mind was so into chess he thought about nothing else to the point of hurting his health and he could not understand how others here in the states did not feel the same way.
I do not condone things he said or aprove of them but he has the right to say whatever he wanted to just like you and me,I wish they had let him play without all the cold war hipe he would most likely have been a better person and more well known here.

Check mate,Time, Game over!
Good Bye Bobby god bless and may you find the peace you did not in life.

Bobby Fisher was a brilliant mind at the tactics of the game of Chess. Most likely one of the top 3 ever to play the game.

His personal life and views he spoke were quite flawed.

I found it interesting that he died at age 64 which is the same number of squares on a chessboard.

I admire his chess acumen, but his views were extreme and misplaced. However, ZB has the right to express her opinion just as much as Bobby did to express his. While it makes more sense to put his statements in context, they were still quite hateful and idiotic. It's too bad he never got past his bitterness.

I swear to god EoP...

Just because he was held back to play chess, he thinks USA should be wiped out? That does not seem to weigh exactly fair.

And as your comment about over-joicing over someones death being distasteful? I go back to something he said yet again...
He praised the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, saying America should be "wiped out," and described Jews as "thieving, lying bastards."
He was over-joicing over the 2,740 deaths of innocent Americans and 236 foreigners that had nothing to do with his "Hold Back".

And for the Jew comment? Im sorry but calling a certain group any kind of name and unjustifiable for that matter is distasteful.

Like I said, he is a dick head. Thats all I need to know about this man, as obviously he was an ignorant evil bastard.

Bobby Fischer's hating America and Jews wasn't simply some personal failing of his. I've read recent writings of his, and it was obvious that the man had some serious mental problems. It's not uncommon for geniuses to be a little crazy sometimes, and it's likely that he had a predisposition to being crazy and coupled with having to flee the U.S. and live on the lamb for a while just pushed him even farther out of the realm of normal human thought.

In any event, he was an incredible chess player and was an icon to America during the Cold War. The world really lost something when he died.
