Post by EternityOfPain »

Typing is now becoming the fastest needed computer skill everyone should have (to a certain degree) it surly helps on those college papers (heh)

Anyways I am curious, how fast can you type?

Take this test:

http://www.typingtest.com/default.asp

Click the button titled "Typing Test" (give a second to load, its java base)

Then click on begin

the test is 1 minute, at the end it will tell you your WPM.

This is my results:

A wireless mac keyboard... are there keyboards that allow you to type faster?

As for my speed, let's just say that in high school I spent a bit too much time on IM with like 8 people simultaneously. But I can't type that fast for that long or my fingers would fall off. :D

Wow. Everyone is so fast. I thought I was pretty quick.

My first run was 49 wpm with a 98% accuracy - in a three minute run. I am sure it would be faster once I tried the same essay several times. (Its easier for me once I know beforehand what the text is going to be.)

Yea there are. Using what they call the "Dvorak Simplified Keyboard" its able to attain speeds much faster if you customize yourself with the key-setup.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard

The letters that most words have are closer together so it makes for typing faster. However the keyboard never really became mainstream.

Also this is an interesting link.. fastest typist in the world:

http://web.syr.edu/~rcranger/blackburn.htm

150 WPM for 50 minutes... (standard keyboard) and 170 WPM using Dvoark. Thats just sick..

I remember when my Dad's secretary was having problems with here Selectric typewriter missing keystrokes. They came out and checked several times and found nothing wrong. Finally the last tech that came out asked her to type something and they discovered that she was typing above the design capacity of the maching 185 words per minute with 99% accuracy. 8O

They told her that she needed to slow down. This was over 25 years ago and still sounds funny
