EBay cutting listing fees, boosting commissions

Although I'm overall opposed to it, there are some positive aspects to not allowing sellers to give negative feedback. Several times I have had a rather bad experience with a seller and I wanted to give a negative feedback, yet did not because I was worried that he/she would take revenge upon my own feedback even if I was the best of buyers. That wouldn't exactly be fair, and I think that's what ebay is trying to combat right now.

I think that this policy will probably cause much lower feedback ratings for sellers as buyers can give negative rep more arbitrarily. So buyers should also take that into account. I normally am a bit unsure if a seller has a feedback of less than 99%, but I think I might have to change that assessment if this policy stays.

Actually...there is a Beta member who has written code for an "anime only" (emphasis on cels) auction site. We'll have to see if it actually gets launched or not, but if so - it might be our potential savior from evilBay

It's another one of ebay's evil schemes -_-
They plot to take more money from us (the sellers) by forcing us to accept paypal...and dam I hate paypal even more then ebay...the freaking fees are evil.
But then again, I need to sell stuff, and the only place I know of is ebay....

Didn't Ebay just buy Paypal a bit ago, if my memory serves? If that's the case, then forcing people to use their payment service should have been something everyone saw coming. Of course, we all already know that according to Paypal, sellers are evil and buyers are angels that get hung out to dry -- boohoo. (*rolls eyes*)

Personally, fees aside (which are bad enough), I generally don't accept Paypal payment for things because I don't trust that buyers aren't simply going to reverse the charges and thumb their nose at me.... Anyone can look at my only-200-odd feedback, realize I don't Ebay for a living, and correctly guess that I don't have the time to spend the weeks on end that you need to get anyone from Paypal customer service on the phone.

The real answer to all of this, that no one seems willing to do is.... DON'T LIST THINGS ON EBAY. Complaining and whining means absolutely nothing to Ebay so long as you keep listing things. On the other hand, if you STOP listing things and then complain to let them know why you're stopping listing things.... THAT makes them stand up and change things. However, I predict people will keep listing things on Ebay, allowing Ebay to do whatever it darn well pleases. (*shrug*)

I have not sold on Ebay for more more than 3 months. Sooooo, even though I have 100% feedback with a rating somewhere around 600 *I have not logged on in a while and have no idea where I stand* I still have not sold in the past 30 days.

And Drac...I completely agree. I will definitely offer my goods here on Beta first. The problem arises when those items don't sell here or on other forums, there really are very few options left to sell on. *sigh*

I understand, but that entire section applies to four select groups of sellers: Newbies, sellers with less than 100 feedback, sellers with horrible feedback, and sellers who are selling in specific categories with high rates of buyer dissatisfaction. The concession is that sellers with an "established track record and more than 95 percent satisfied buyers in the last 30 days" will not have funds withheld, even though they are selling in the latter category.

They are not saying that they will indiscriminately withhold funds from among all sellers who haven't sold in the last thirty days. On the other hand, who knows what they will decide constitutes "higher rates of buyer dissatisfaction".

As for the whole concept of withholding funds that do not belong to them...I wonder if the legality isn't sketchy at best. I do know for certain that the first time they do it to me will be the last time that I accept PayPal.

Not much of a surprise, I guess, but as with the 30 day rule, for now it only applies to the same categories of sellers as above.

I'm starting to think they added all of the annoying details so that people would be distracted from the 64% raise in the final value fee for first $25. For example, if you list a cel for $50, sell it for $100 and accept PayPal, your fees would total $10. Do it ten times and you've virtually given away a free cel.

...As opposed to the absolute maximum savings of eighty cents on the new listing fees - but that's only if you list something for $500 or more.

I received an email from ebay alerting me to this. All I can say right now is I'm upset about not being able to give feedback to buyers. I usually have more problems with buyers than with sellers. You have other kinds of protection when you're the buyer. If you go through PayPal, you have a tracking system of paying, etc. Any disputes buyers have had with me, I've produced receipts, customs forms, delivery confirmation numbers, etc. to prove I've mailed the item in question. (Typically, it turns out the post office had a SNAFU or the buyer was a little impatient as I can't make the post office every day.)

Of course, I'm very happy it won't happen until the end of February. I have a dispute right now and will give negative feedback unless my buyer explains why they dropped off the face of the earth without paying.

(I'd rather not but if they don't pay I will.)

I'm going to have to reread the whole thing later to figure out what else I'll have to "look forward to".

Oh! A little bit off topic but I really hated the star system ebay started a few months back. I ignore them when researching sellers and refuse to fill them out when I give feedback. I'd rather read what someone took the time to write than glance at an average number.

I thought I would finally list all my sketches this month, but forget it. Too much effort for too much potential hassle. I'm a member of eBay since 2000, 83 feedback, 100% positive. Since buying feedback won't count (?), I suppose that would be 67 or less, way below 100, especially at the rate I sell. Maybe I'll put the sketches up on Rubberslug for a while.

Anyone know any good sites/forums to sell PVC figures? I have a few I've been meaning to sell...

Edit: Is it true that Google will be starting auctions?

As a buyer I'm not happy abt it either, becoz I dun use ebay often and have a low amt of feedback (all positive), I'm goin to be mistaken as one of those buyers with bad transactions but no negative feedback!

Hey, if you find one, please let me know. I've been wanting to sell some figures too but it seems like a waste of time to sell them on ebay. The fees would eat up ALL the money. It would be cheaper to hand them to my friends as presents - only they wouldn't want that many.
